Worked great for about 2 weeks... UPDATE!!
I was initially very pleased with this purchase, we installed it at the top of our steps. It's only been there for about 2 weeks and has been working beautifully. After very little use, I found last night that an entire top portion of the gate was snapped off. I am pretty upset, because I drilled holes in my floor thinking this was a long term solution. I guess not! Don't waste your time or money on this thing. I'm contacting their customer service directly to discuss a refund.UPDATE: I recently had the pleasure of working with the company to figure out how to get a replacement. I emailed yesterday afternoon and got a response VERY quickly and was told it would be forwarded on to someone who could help me. It happened to be the President and CEO Doug Gessford. I was highly impressed! He asked for the invoice, serial number and some photos of the damage. I sent that info and he responded within hours, asking some clarifying questions. He was also VERY sure to ask me to take the gate down for fear my son may be injured if we continued to use it. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, I honestly can't get over how easy he was to work with. In my last email with him, he kindly asked me to destroy the gate, so no one attempts to use it, and informed me that UPS would have a new gate to me ASAP all free of charge. He even tossed in an extra mounting kit for us so we can use the gate on two doorways that are adjoining (which is why I purchased this gate to begin with, but now we'll have extra hardware, yippee!). I am floored by the level of customer service and WILL shop with them again, based on this experience alone!!

Nice gate, with but a couple of challenges
We bought this gate for the bottom of our stairs, to prevent both a toddler and a dog from going up the stairs. The gate itself is made of what appears to be poplar (see below), and in its 36" wide configuration, is sufficiently strong to block kids and dogs. Edges are finished nicely (no splinters, no snags). It expands, collapses, and swings smoothly and quietly. In short: it's almost exactly like what I wanted. There is, however, an installation consideration:If the bottom of the gate, on either side, is to be anchored on baseboards, the included spacers might not be sufficient to anchor the top. In my case, my baseboards are 3/4-inch thick, while the spacers were only 1/2-inch. I installed some 3/4" pine as an alternative spacer. See my product images for details. I wish they'd include some 3/4" spacers.I found it annoying that the plastic bag containing the hardware was captured under the rivet on the metal foot. It was very difficult to get all the plastic out from under the rivet, and, even now, a bit remains. Finally, I'll note that the gate is made of unfinished wood. It appears to be poplar, which is good in that it is a strong hardwood. However, poplar has a greenish color that may not appeal to everyone. A nice touch would've been for the gate to be stained to a golden oak color and finished with some kind of polyurethane. I'd have paid $10 more for that. As it is, staining it yourself, in its preassembled form, would be a tedious exercise. Again, it's not a fatal flaw, just a point of improvement.

2 YEARS and STILL GOING STRONG !!
I'm sorry I forgot to leave my review on this gate when I bought it , but this is TRULY a 5 Star Gate and here's why , We purchased this Gate 2 years ago , and while the first gate had some slight damage, the Company gave us the BEST customer service I have seen from anyone ! Not only did they help us out , they also insisted on replacing our gate and making sure we were totally satisfied with the replacement! Now for the best part - 2 YEARS later and this gate is STILL working and performing just as it did from day ONE !! We use it to keep our aging Pit Bull baby from trying to climb our 2nd floor stairs when we're not there to aid her . Let me tell you this gate gets used NON STOP and believe me when I say it's used A LOT ! We can honestly say you will have this gate for years ! PS. (the only tiny issue and its nothing to us , is the locking button is a little hard for us to use ,so we don't use it often - we use 2 eye hooks instead)

Simple, light and collapses out of the way
I looked at other gates that were heavy, had awkward tension latches, or were not compact. I selected this one. You do have to drill holes where needed. For us Mr. Fix-its, it can easily be adapted for different situations. I used two of them to make a double gate for the kitchen, replacing one of the latches with eye bolts at the top and bottom of the post. I attached a length of light chain (you could use cord) between the two posts of each gate so that the gates wouldn't expand beyond the desired width when they come together at the center of the entrance way.I did receive one gate with the rivet driven right through the metal of the center leg. *sigh* But I just drilled out the rivet, flattened the metal back into the unwanted hole, and put a bolt in the proper slot. Fortunately the wood slat was not damaged. (Who inspects these things!) I have to admit that I actually enjoyed fixing it. The other two gates were fine.

Good quality gate. Has metal stop guard on bottom.
I bought this gate to keep my dog from running off the deck into the backyard at certain times of the day. This gate is made well. Thick good quality wood. Nice hardware. It has a piece of metal that hangs off the bottom which is a stop guard so the bottom can't be pushed in. This is my issue. I understand the metal stop on the bottom but I'm pretty sure my dog can fit through it. The gap is about 3-4" off the floor. My husband is going to remover the metal stop so I can use the gate.

Serves its Purpose
We bought this gate to keep our 2.5 year old in her room at night. It just barely fits our standard doorway, so we had to attach it to the door frame on each side. It's very quiet to open and close in the middle of the night. I'm 5'5" and I can step over it to get to my daughter if I don't have a free hand to open it. We've had no issues with pinched fingers, or any injuries. It also keeps the cat out of her room which is an added bonus. It is a very solid and safe product. I would recommend this to other parents.
