Will it cover a panel that is a different color from the car or should the whole car need to be primed. And what primer should I use?

If you shoot this over different colored panels, they will definitely tend to have a different final finish, especially since this paint is a little bit transparent. What I did was reduce down some epoxy primer (2:1:1 epoxy primer, cayalyst, acetone), and sprayed the whole truck. This will act like a sealer to lock in any high build or bear metal, and leave you with a totally consistent color to shoot the single stage over. I'm sure there are a million other ways to do it, but that's what I did (after all bodywork was done), and it came out great. Hope that helps.

Will 1 gallon be enough to paint a whole car?

It will. I bought 2 gallons for an extended cab truck with full size bed and 1 gallon did it. The paint is beautiful, I'd recommend clear and urethane blend. It's the strongest. I get tons of compliments on the color. I also did mix in a larger red metallic flakes.

Do I need to purchase clearcoat to go with the single stage? I've been told no but wanted to double check.

This paint is great doesn't need a reducer, if you want to get a unbelievable job use the clear coat. I have walked to the garage at least five times just to look at the finish. LOL
