String Swing Home and Studio Guitar Hanger - Black Metal Base - Perfect for our Wii Guitar Hero needs
This was an excellent purchase. Our kids have been Guitar Hero crazy for a few years, and we quickly tired of the guitars (four of them) piling up in the corner of our living room or being left strewn about. After reading reviews of several different guitar hanger brands, we decided to go with these -- and have been very happy with them. Our walls are made of typical drywall and 2 x 4 stud construction, and installation of one of these hangers took all of about 5 minutes at most. A majority of that time was spent figuring out where the studs were in our wall and I used a Zircon stud finder for that part of job ( Zircon TriScanner Pro SL Edge-Finding Stud Finder with Metal Scanning ). In the end, two of the hangers were screwed in to studs, and two were mounted into the drywall using the drywall anchors supplied with the kit. Note that the instructions on the back of the package call drywall anchors "toggles"... who knows why.As noted, installation was not overly challenging. Once we figured out where to put each hanger, we held each base plate (making sure it was level) in its place on the wall and marked each screw hole with a pencil. For the two hangers screwed into studs, a 1/8 drill bit was used to create guide holes. For the two hangers screwed into drywall anchors, a 1/4 drill bit was used.Next, a medium size Phillips head screwdriver was just the right tool to screw the drywall anchors snugly into the drywall (screw them in until flush with the drywall surface and do not over tighten). Once the drywall anchors were in place, the hanger base plates were screwed into their proper places on the wall with the Phillips head screwdriver. The hanger arms screw into a pre-threaded receptacle on the base plate, but there are two things recommended prior to performing this final step: (1) The threaded shaft on the hanger arms has a protective rubber nipple on it -- take it off -- it is just there to protect the threads during shipping; (2) Slide the keepers (thick rubber washers that comes with the kit) over the protective cap at the end of each arm -- yes, it is a tight fit but only takes a couple seconds to do. This is easier done before installing the arms on to the base plate, because this allows you to use both hands to push a keeper onto each arm.Now you are ready for the final steps: (1) Screw the hanger into the threaded receptacle on the base plate (tighten but don't over-tighten with brute force); (2) Gently lift your guitar into place with one hand and, while holding it steady, adjust the position of the keepers as needed; (3) Let go of your guitar... you are done!Stand back and look at your excellent work. Outstanding!Highly recommended.

Strong, affordable, easy to use...what's the problem?
I am at a complete loss to understand why anyone would need "better instructions" on attaching the washers on the yoke, but here are those instructions several reviewers have requested.1. Take off the black end caps on the yokes.2. Stick on the washers.3. Replace the black end caps. These hangers are ridiculously easy to use.The package gives instructions (contrary to some reviews) on adjusting yoke width: "To widen, grasp each arm of the yoke and pull apart. To narrow, put hand around yoke arms and squeeze." Don't see what's so complicated about that, myself.Seriously, they're dead-simple to set up. I couldn't use the drywall anchors because my walls are painted paneling; I can't speak to the effectiveness of those included hangers. I put up a backboard mounted on studs and used #8 panhead screws, as recommended by another reviewer, to mount the hangers on the backboards.I have several of these hangers and intend to buy several more.My instruments are working instruments, not *just* wall art. I bought these hangers intending to use them, take the instruments down and put them back, and these hangers are great for that use. That said, if you want to hang your instruments and mainly leave them hanging, you can trust these hangers. While I do feel a little sarcastic when people complain about ridiculous things that are their problem and not an issue with the product, these hangers truly are dead-simple to use and very reliable. Some reviewers have suggested buying the wood hanger for acoustic guitars because this one allows the guitar to bump into the wall. That's just false. I have three acoustic guitars and five of these hangers. I tried all three guitars (but only one hanger) on a flat wall before mounting them on the backboard. This hanger has a substantial post, and the metal bracket is convex.I would be very surprised if anyone who actually owns this hanger and an acoustic guitar has bumped their guitar against the wall in the course of normal use. I don't see how you could, if you're not rough or careless. If you bump your guitar with this, you would do it with any hanger I've ever seen, because the wall clearance is the same.
