Q: Does it support dual layer bluray?

Q: Does the BDR-209DBK work as well with Linux as the BDR-208DBK,, and what is the difference in features between the two?

All CD, DVD, and BD drives have been supported by linux since forever and requires no special driver, it should be automatically detected by the kernel. As far as differences, go to pioneerelectronics.com and type in the model #s, the only difference is that the 209 is newer and can burn BDR SL @ 16x vs the 208 @ 15x.

Q: I don't need this burner to play blu-rays. I only need one to make blu-rays from files I have already on my pc with. Is this burner good to go?

It makes blurays just fine if you have the necessary software - I am on mac and use Toast. They just take ages to burn with Toast but that's not the burner's fault.

Q: Is this OEM or does it come with cables and drivers?

"Pioneer BDR-209DBK-KIT 16X Blu-ray Writer Drive + Nero 12 Essentials Burning Software + Sata Cable Kit", would suggest that it does come with cables and software. If it doesn't return it. I bought one last year, am buying another now, and the last one came as advertised (Nero Essentials disk, SATA-2 cable, Power "Y" cable, and screws).
