Actual capacity is 3.8 liters. I am aware that one is supposed to leave room for expansion. Try this trick to extend your range: start out your trip with the gas can filled to the top. Fill the can just before trail departure. Stop your vehicle after about 1/2 hour and top the tank off with the can. Now the can has plenty of room for expansion.Update: On my first trail ride with fuel in this container, the top portion of the mount shattered about 12 miles into the ride, dumping the container on the trail. The container survived, but I had to empty it into all of the bikes on the ride, and then bungee the empty container to the rack. It is useless now. Downgraded to one star.

Have used it for 2 years now off roading with no issues. Can mount it practically anywhere. Way more economical than the roto. No leaking. What else could one ask for?
