The best knife for the Apocalypse
I am a knife collector who owns a collection handed down to be through 4 generations of my family and wanted to add an iconic knife to the collection..... That was the excuse I told my wife when I purchased this knife. However the truth is that I had binged watched most of the seasons of The Walking Dead and the entire season of The Last of Us and wondered....what would be the absolutely best knife available to kill zombies and survive the apocalypse? After many hours reading reviews, first hand accounts from actual combat encounters they all came back to the Ka-Bar knife. I will be honest, it isn't sexy or pretty. But it is simply a very well-made tool of death. It has a full tang to resist breakage, a slip resistant leather handle, robust finger guard, a surprisingly sharp factory edge and blackened blade. The version I purchased had a very nice plastic sheath that clipped the knife in even without the handle snap. Hopefully I will never have to kill a zombie but if I do, I will have this knife at the ready

Quality And Heritage
Coming from serving for the army for 8 years not active duty, I wish i was issued this knife. That being said, this knife has been unoficially issued to a solider that served and will continue to serve for America. Being manafactured in USA, I am proud to have it on my person every where i go! Along with the history this company holds as well as what it stands for, I am amazed of the quality and history. I have various neighbours family and friends have served in Vietnam combat as well as Korea, ww2 and Golf war, Iraq and Afgastan. All have claimed to this Knife and its brothers in arms variants. USMC, Army, Navy, Coast Guard. Long live Kill a Bear! AKA: KA-BAR!!This will protect the Constitution in the near Civil war when it comes to it as it is the soul of the Free World! Thank All who serve along with All who kept this company alive throughout the years!! Struggle an all!Sgt Matthews 2010-2018 seperated.

The KING of ALL knives EVER made
I own MANY knives from all ends of the quality spectrum. As an ex-US Army Officer, I had to get the US Army 1228 KaBar. I opted for the black sheath instead of the traditional leather for a mix of old and new. The sheath has a very positive lock feature. It does not dull my knife like I've read someone wrongfully state. Draw and re-sheath your blade with the same positive visual and care you would take with your side arm or concealed carry firearm. The blade is high carbon 1095 CroVan...incredible. The blade is of perfect size, balance, sharpness and history. It is the only knife I just love to hold...something about it. This is the knife that I can depend my life upon as hundreds of thousands of battle proven military personnel have...and do. Fast shipping. HIGHLY impressed.

Black sheath, not green.
Mine came with a black sheath, not O.D. green as pictured. Maybe it's just my eyes, but the picture looks like dark OD green to me. I don't really mind what color the sheath is, but someone else might.Knife came very sharp right out of the box, with all lines and angles straight as they should be. Very nice knife and well made.Reviewer who said that the sheath can dull the edge is correct, but that is easily fixed by gluing a thin strip of soft plastic inside the sheath to contact the edge, or just be careful about holding the edge away when putting in or pulling out. Also love that the sheath is ambidextrous for us lefties. Finally, keep in mind that the color of the leather will get darker over time, especially if you handle it with sweaty hands. Almost black after many years. That's not a bad thing, it's just what happens.Overall this is a great knife for the money.

Great Knife
I love these things. I had one when I was in the Army and lost it on the way home from the 1st Gulf War. I've whined about it for 2 decades. My wife finally got tired of the whining and got me a new one. See, even a dude can whine long enough to get what he wants. Wife said it was worth the money so she didn't have to listen to the story about my lost knife every time I have a couple of beers. Now, of course, I have to dirty this one up and develop the patina on the blade, so I can lie and say this is the old one...shhh, our little secret.

Great knife, terrible sheath
The knife itself is fantastic. Bog standard Ka-Bar. Couldn't ask for more. It's exactly what I was shopping for.The sheath however is terrible. It looks great. Holds the knife well. But it dulls the blade. Badly. I'm proud of my sharpening skills (freehand, water stones and strop), and it pains me to see all my work go to waste on the first draw. Micro rolls all up and down the blade. Heartbreaking.Looks like I should have gone with the leather sheath.
