good magnifier but that is it.
If you want to use this to measure things - forget it. The scale does not appear in focus no matter what angle or position you try to place the magnifier in - the scale is always just out of the picture. But great as a magnifier, it just should not be advertised as something you can measure anything with.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
I've had several 7x linen testers like this -- from Edmund Scientific in the past. I eventually lose them, but I love 'um. My last two have been this version from Amazon. The second was because I lost the first. I've been using them for 40 years. I always have one with me.Today, I have cataract implants in both eyes thus making it impossible to see up close. These things make it easy. They automatically set the right distance between lens and object. Greater than 7x is too much magnification for my use. My first one from Amazon was this 11x -- Carson® LED Lighed LinenTest 11.5x Focusing Loupe (LT-10) -- because I didn't see the 7x. I don't use the 11x after I got this 7x.

some distortion
This seems to have distortion in the middle of the lens which is annoying if you are using it see fine detail. Probably works fine for counting threads.

When It's Tooo Small To See!
I have this little item with me at all times. Bi-focal lens, and reading glasses are awesome, but this little device is outstanding and will probably be ordering more as it is plastic. Rugged plastic, but still plastic! Great Item!

OMG! This makes counting fabric threads so much easier ...
OMG! This makes counting fabric threads so much easier - where has it been my whole life! Seriously, if you have ever tried to count threads with a ruler and a needle you know how difficult that can be, especially as our eyes get older! Every stitcher should have this in their tool kit.

Great for parties
Had to buy this for a textiles class and it served its purpose. Not a bad linen tester. I used it for fun after the class was over to check out what type of twill patterns my friend's jeans had to "impress" them with my amazing textiles background :^P

I was pretty rough in transporting it in my pocket and bike ...
Used this for my textiles class in school and it was everything I could ever want in a folding magnifying glass. I was pretty rough in transporting it in my pocket and bike bag and it stayed in great shape. I would highly recommend this linen tester.

Good value
I shouldn't have bee surprised that this was plastic - my other, original line tester was metal - but it works well, is slightly bigger than my original one and has a clear view. I use it to focus on a large format camera glass screen and it works well for this purpose as well as its intended one.

Its all clearer now !
I work in a QA department and find the need to occasionally inspect very small items and this is excellent for the job and has saved me so much time and set my co workers off wondering what it is used for - I will eventually tell them.

Bigger would be better
This is about one quarter of the size of what I expected - my fault - should have looked at the ad. more closely.I had hoped to use it for watch repairs but far too small to work under. Would be ideal for a philatelist however.
