Red Lantern 18" Double Cross Shoji Lamp, Black

Was looking for Nightllights that fit with an oriental theme and these worked like a charm. Pros: Easy to assemble just fold out and use included tool to fit light socket to the lamp. Looks great. Cons: Might be a bit dim with a regular lightbulb I was afraid that a 60Watt bulb might cause heat issues with the lamp so I went with the slightly more expensive LED 60 watt equivalent bulb which produces no noticeable heat. It is a bit expensive at avg $25 a bulb but it was quite a bit brighter than I had anticipated and works wonderfully Setting on top of a mirrored surface really helps with the light as well as the brightest light obviously shines through the bottom. Can't beat it for the price and I was so happy with the one I tried I got a second one for each side of the bed.

The lamp is beautiful. This item met my expectations and I have used it for several months without any difficulties. The fabric is a rather delicate, partially transparent, and brilliant bleached white Shoji/rice paper. The frame is stable and without defect. I recently purchased a similar make from an Asian store for about 10 dollars less, so I can't say it is the best price available, but it is quite pleasing and I don't regret the purchase.

The lamps construction was very baddly done. Because neither shipping box was damaged I assume the lamp was packed already broken. One leg was broken and had been glued back on. One of the paper screens was missing and another was crookedly attached. A screw hole was bigger than the screw, (I found the screw in the bottom of the bag). The bulb bracket was attached at an angle. This was supposed to be a Valentine's day gift for me, so I really resented having to pay a 15% restocking fee for an already broken lamp. 2/28/20 - They issued a complete refund and did not charge a restocking fee.

This is a great little lamp. It has the switch on the cord, which I like, and is easy to put together. It give just enough soft light to read to, but not so much that you can't fall asleep. It's very nice looking as well.

What I like: Very easy to put together, basically comes assembled. The switch is a couple feet from the base and it's a nice long cord that feels good, not cheap. It throws a nice diffuse light. I like the little square of light it throws on the ceiling, but that's just me. It's not expensive. What I don't like: at least one of the vertical lattice pieces is noticeably curved or warped, instead of straight. The paper shade would be sooo much prettier if it was a decorative paper like rice paper with texture. It is a much redder than the picture--I expected a more subtle rosewood or cherry wood finish, but this looks like a painted red surface. It is smaller than I anticipated--I have a similar lamp that's just about an inch wider and it that would make this look less like a toy and more like a real lamp. These qualities make it more of a back bedroom-kind of lamp rather than a living room lamp. This could so easily have been a high quality lamp. Corrected they would definitely make it 5 star and I would have paid 25% more to achieve that. By the way the description doesn't say what type or size bulb is required. I got another lamp from Amazon (Wooden Floor Lamp with White Linen Shade Floor...) for not much more that was definitely much higher in quality, larger, and more substantial.

These were a gift to my mother for her birthday she had some older ones Shoji Japanese Latterns which were black, the kids polked wholes into the rice paper, which ruined them. Grandchildren for you... I bought 3 to replace for my mother, she loved them. They were very easy to assemble, from the outside they are perfect, from the inside I noticed some flaws. But no one would know or see... Definite wonderful buy, very nice quality...

I had similar lamps years ago and hoped for something similar. The color is almost purple and doesn't match with anything I have. The switch to turn them on and off is all the way down by the plug so if you use them for bedside lamps you can't reach the on off switch from your table. I tried sending them back and the charge for shipping back was so high we wound up giving them away.

This item could be set on a surface, or hung up from trees/porch hooks etc - lets out a perfect amount of warm lighting! We've got two in the bedroom, and they provide an elegance as well as great reading light - they also go VERY well with Winsome Wood designs (also available on Amazon) - the designs are very similar, and the tint of the black, matches the tint of the Winsome Wood blacks.
