The Honeywell motion detector is very easy to install. It does require some programming at your alarm panel to assign the detector to an alarm partition and zone. But there are many videos on YouTube that show you how to do it on a Honeywell Ademco alarm panel. You will need the security/maintenance code to access programming of the panel so find this first. Altogether, you need perhaps 10 minutes to hang it up (some drilling required, but no wiring), another 10 minutes to do the programming, and 10 more minutes to test that it's working and the alarm panel issues the correct information to your monitoring company. After doing one, I evaluated the vulnerabilities to break in of my house and added three more.It uses a CR123A lithium battery. These should last 3 to 5 years depending on the activity in the area being monitored. A low voltage warning will be sent to the alarm panel and your monitoring company when it's time to change batteries.

Works very well, and I'm glad that these motion detectors will serve their intended purpose in my home. Setup/installation was straightforward and easy. The myriad add-ons for a Honeywell system are what made me choose to self-monitor and buy peace of mind.I have two 70lb dogs who always follow each other around my house. I was worried that when both of them enter a motion-monitored room that their combined size and weight would trip the sensor and send a false alarm. Sure enough, they did, but to my surprise they also set off the motion detector individually. So I you have a large dog (either large in size or weight), please know that these are not 100% going to ignore your animal even if they are smaller than the described 80lb limit for this product. These sensors sense infrared heat, and a large enough presence will trigger them regardless if it's walking on 2 legs or on 4.I have to be aware when setting my alarm system to different modes. I have a certain mode for when we leave the dogs in the house and another when we take the dogs with us since we then leave the motion sensors active. I don't want to get charged false alarm fees from the local authorities just because my dogs were playing.It is unfortunate because some alarm systems have a safety default where, if an interior motion sensor is triggered without a second perimeter sensor going off (window, door, garage, etc.), then the alarm will not trigger. However, this does make someone vulnerable to an intruder coming through the roof, chimney, or unmonitored entrance point. But I just wish there were a way to setup my Lynx 5200 system with motion sensor capabilities with large dogs. I understand the limitations and wouldn't want a small intruder to get the best of me all because I wanted my large dogs to not trigger my alarm.
