Good series
This is a good series about an increasingly diverse family rebuilding their lives in Ireland after WWII. While the first book in the series might be described as a bit “grittier”with the history of Irish/English relations and the build-up of the war, this book tended toward strong sentimentality. As a consequence, I found this one a bit less enjoyable than the first. The patriarchs of the family Dermott and Isabella are almost unbelievable in their humanity and goodness and the issues of American race relations are used to maximum effect to create pathos. There is a new and very unlikely relationship in this book that stretched my credulity and concerns me that the author is veering too hard toward mawkishness.Despite the flaws, it’s still an enjoyable series so far. I just hope the author doesn’t keep ladling on so much of the Lifetime movie gooey sweetness.

Exciting!!!
Just could not wait for what was on the next page!!!! I would definitely recommend! I would think it would be more easily understood, if one read the series in order, though.

Harmony with hope
Not only are they great reading, they have so much history of the time and places.Especially involving classification of people.

Warm, inviting and totally satisfying
Jean Grainger kept me satisfied, again, with this wonderful extended story from Book 1. She has an ability to describe a character, male or female, young or old, in a quick manner with a scarcity of words that is hard to find in many books. While it seems this paucity of verbiage might hurt her characterizations, it, in fact, strengthens them.Having a strong sense of a persons’ personality, strengths and weaknesses allows the action to continue without feeling interrupted by too many descriptions. I read on and on without the sense of intrusion of too much explanation from the author.Any reader of any one of Graingers’ books enjoy the story, characters and lives of the characters. I am, in addition, impressed by the amount of research she must delve into as her stories seem to flow so smoothly in times of local, country and worldly affairs. In this book alone the Great Depression, WW I and II, the Irish conflict, segregation, travelers, out-of-wedlock children, PTSD, loyalties, orphanages, farming, the class system, plant lore, farming and great houses had to be researched. These topics are the ones I remember in this moment; there are more.It gives me a glow of satisfaction to read one of Jeans’ books and I am thrilled to be able to recommend this book without any reservations. Thank you, Jean, for another excellent book!

Historical fiction is the best!!!
Enjoyed keeping up with the Murphy family and their conflicts with classes, races and small community. It is comforting that family wins in the end. I would like to know the young Dermot and Isabella and how they became so grounded through their young years.

A View From Nextdoor: Ireland during WWII
I have been reading historical WW Il fiction set in Italy, Germany and England but never Ireland. The stories of courage and sacrifice seem endless. The Robinswood saga is appealing because of the strong Family bond that pushes and pulls its members but never breaks them. I can imagine this as Ireland's Downton Abbey on television. Had a laugh about Aisling's name being mispronounced. My daughter-in- law is named Ashleigh. And I have a theatre friend named Sibohan. My name is Nina but it rhymes with China. I want to learn more about Ireland since my maiden name is McCloskey. How timely is it about Beau being black in the south in the 40's with all the racial protests going on here in the States. I liked that the 3 sisters were so different. I didn't know there was an Irish Sea.

Storytelling at its finest
Jean Grainger continues to weave historical fact with fiction to continue the Robinswood Saga. As with all her novels, the historical parts are quite accurate, and the storytelling is perfection. The characters are well developed. All have their strengths and their flaws. The relationships amongst them are believable.I so look forward to the next book, and the next. And then on to the other series she has written. I am hooked.

Engaging story of Ireland and England in the late 1940s
I enjoyed this book much more than the first one. I liked the portrayal of what it was like for pilots to return to civilian life and fighting their demons, the society's changes and also Lilian's story in the USA. It is the portrayal of a really united endearing family who help one another at times of need.

Not good enough.
This large print edition paperback started falling to bits as I read it. Pages just falling out. I didn't start reading it straight away and the returns date had expired. Not good enough, Amazon should refund or compensate for this. Book now useless unless you enjoy reading books in bits!

Superb
Couldn't wait to read this next book . However did get a little fed up of the author going back over things that happen in the first novel.

Very enjoyable
I bought the first book in series and enjoyed it so I bought the second one and have just finished it, there are a lot of characters but I could follow easily and really enjoyed the book. Am about to start boom three, if you like solid stories with interesting characters and a book that's not really obvious then I recommend this series
