Lowriders in Space

Like a Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang taking place in the southwest US (or is it northwest Mexico). Upbeat fantastical humor and imagery. The colorful, high-energy drawings keep the fantasy alive and driving forward. There is no surprise at the end, but it doesn't matter, these are like the day dreams of every kid as they tighten the bolts on their bicycle or hammer together two boards in the basement. "What if I could make this thing fly..."Seems at a level for older elementary school age to read themselves or younger elementary to have read to them. Or, jackpot, if your middle or high school-er to reads it to the younger kids of your posse. The spectacular drawing will keep even the youngest paying attention even if they don't understand all the words and ideas the first time through.

I thought that this was a fun read and that it was respectful of Aztec culture. I also appreciated the woman mechanic.

What a wonderful graphic novel! The storyline was very clever and I enjoyed the main characters in the story very much. They worked together well to reach their common goal. The theme of teamwork was good in this novel. I liked all the artwork; it was interesting that it was done with three colors of a bic pen. The use of Spanish words and their meaning throughout the novel gave it a nice flavor for the setting & background. I like how the novel took flight and went to outerspace. What a nice touch :-)

Exactly what I ordered

Wonderful book. Great illustrations, great characters, great story. The lead character is a female who is an expert mechanic--encouraging for young girls to read about. I will buy more as gifts.

I did my best with the Spanish, but high school's not enough for me apparently. Hee hee. Ah well it was a good story. Very cute drawings and I wonder what's gonna happen next! Until then,HASTA LUEGO MI AMIGOS!TE AMO!

Such a fun story and beautifully illustrated! I especially love that the hero mechanic is a Latina woman. Very cool for Latina girls to see themselves represented in stories like these.

When I was ten or eleven my lessons seemed to drag forever...The book seems to be written by a bored student. Crazy ideas only a young brain could fathom plus ballpens used as drawing tools. I just keep re-reading.If I were four times younger, I would ask Lupe out.

Supercool! For kids tho, but fun reading. Great artwork, super creative!

This is an amazing graphic novel, especially for reluctant readers that LOVE cars. I have a lowrider so my nephew especially loves this series.
