Fotodiox Softbox Speedring (Insert and Base Plate) for Alien Bees Strobe Light B400, B800, B1600

I used this to mount my AlienBees light to a soft box that originally has a Bowen’s mount. It works very well and the price is very fair. Also Fotodiox adapters for other lights will interchange so it is extra useful for those who have more than one brand of lights.

i wish this ring was about 1cm wider so that i could put it snuggly around my light socket, but, it holds up my 63" octagon with no problems. if this ring was wider, it would create the needed tension to make my softbox feel a little more firm. but what the hell, it does the job for me.

As a requirement to mount some softboxes I already own, these speedrings are very well built, I am not afraid that the holes where the studs are to be mounted will break as with the ones made of plastic. They are held firmly in place on may AB lights.

This speed-ring adapter made it possible for a [pro]master soft box I purchased to be compatible with my alienbee 800 and 400 flash units. It takes a bit of effort to fit into place but it gets the job done.

Only used it for about one week. Solid product. Works as intended. This speedring does not have a 1/4 20 thread for mounting the speedring to a light stand that some photographers like. However, that is not necessary with the Alien Bee 400 and a 24x36 softbox.

Most speedrings come with nylon or plastic washers that sit between the insert and ring. This allows the insert to rotate with variable amounts of pressure when you want to rotate modifier that is attached. This unit do not have those shims, so it's metal on metal and rotation is difficult/impossible. If you know this before you're buying, and plan on locking these in place then you'll be good to go! If however you want to change things up during a session, and do so with min. interruption, these are not for you.

this is my 3rd fotodiox speedring (3 different lights) and i've been very happy with the product. it does it's job flawlessly. it's a good idea to tighten the screws once receiving the speedring and retighten them every month or so just to make sure that 2 pieces of the speedring are properly attached. can beat the price!

Excellent speedring! I bought it to convert my Interfit Stellar Softbox to fit my new AB1600 strobe. Great fit and now I can go back and forth on strobe types based on my lighting configuration. Ideally I would like to retire my Interfit Stellar lights but until then, this is a great workaround.

Worked great on my Alienbees, build quality is also good.
