Worth the price of admission
I started using a GPS unit for distances on the golf course to eliminate debates within my group on how far from the green we were. Ten minutes of discussing distance have been eliminated with this device. Tons of courses, easy menu navigation and the screen is visible on those bright sunny days. I also like how you can tap on a point on the hole to determine the distance. So if you want to land short of a hazard, just tap a safe spot and your distance is displayed. Ton of more options for those who like pinpointing distances. As a bonus, the unit is a launch monitor and practice aid. Shot distances are within the ballpark (+/- 5 yards maybe) and I like the tempo trainer that helps you slow down and smooth out your swing. The only nit I have is the stupid clip that is included. It's flimsy, not very useful and the rubber band design is an accident waiting to happen. Luckily I found the belt clip version that is much better. Okay... another nit. I wish the G80 stored your launch monitor data for review. Maybe upload it to the Garmin Golf app? It is a simple way to get a feel for your distances but unless you take notes on the range, you need a good memory of how each club is performing.

This is worth the hype! A multi functional GPS & Launch monitor.
I have wanted one of these for 2 years, ever since I 1st heard about it. This smaller than an iPhone color touchscreen GPS device works great. It has a reliable built in launch monitor. It has a closest to the pin game. It has a tempo trainer, it has a target / distance trainer. This is very valuable to course management. It holds a charge very well, easily lasts 2 rounds and also a long range trip. Well made, works great, and a great value for the money at the price on Amazon.

Worth The Money - Still a Heavy Price Tag
Great product. Heavy price tag but does what it does very well. Easy to use, though slightly tricky on your first try. Once I got it going I saw noticeable improvement in my consistency. Initially was at around 94 mph clubhead speed and ended around 104 mph consistently towards the end of my session. Smash factor felt accurate, and I don’t question the speed on club/ball. Roll distance can be fiddled with depending on your tendency, but the carry distance was spot on +-5 yards or so. The gps is wonderful and works really well. Really enjoyed being able to move the pin around on the digital green, and was provided with multiple yardages around the green. (Front, back, center, and pin) Excited to use this indoors during the winter. Overall feels worth 375-400 bucks but hey... I’m happy with my purchase overall.

Arguably Better Than Nothing, If you like to argue.
I purchased this on March 18 because it was supposed to be a great hybrid product combining the best of both a golf GPS as well as a range tool showing club speed and ball speed. Well, it does half as much as it is supposed to, rendering it as an overpriced GPS. (I should have returned it by April 20th to get a refund. Garmin doesn't answer their phone and Amazon uses a very short window.) This thing does NOT provide accurate swing speed and will not register speeds above 100 MPH. The ball speeds are shaky at best, and the distances are not accurate at all. You would be much better off just going to a driving range on a hill with a good laser rangefinder and work the math backwards from where you see your ball land. It is garbage. I would never, ever buy this again, and of course I would never give it as a gift. (I have measured this on the range, on the course, and comparing against Trackman) Worse, compared with modern features such as magnetic mount, this thing has to be strapped to your golf cart with rubber bands. It is nice on the course. Like all Garmin products it will give good distances to the green. Yay. You don't have to spend over $400 for that. It holds a charge as well. I have played over 36 holes on a single charge. But if you think you are going to get a good idea of swing speeds, smash factor, and carry distance as you experiment at the driving range, just forget it. You are setting yourself up for anger, ridicule, and frustration.

This Device is Nothing Short of Amazing
I have played golf for most of my adult life and practice on the range is an important part of the process. For the first time, range time became almost enjoyable as play as i cycles through practice, virtual courses and target practice options. I did all today on the range, and had a fantastic practice session as well as a reasonable workout. I was particularly impressed with the virtual course option. I played 18 holes on the course associated with the range, and the shots and score was spot on with what I have achieved on the course. Using the device, i both practiced the course and got a great workout, while making a variety of shots using every club in the bag other than the putter. And, of course, the device works as advertised when playing an actual game in the course. Terrific product. Very satisfied buyer.

I bought the G80 in February and I live in Canada. So I have only been able to use the launch monitor indoors off of mats. It’s been a lot of fun. The target practice is great and the virtual rounds/tournaments are a lot of fun. It makes practicing fun and with a purpose. I usually go to the range and just smash balls with no purpose only to see the flight. At the range it’s hard to tell how far you are actually hit the ball. With the G80 at your side now you can see how far the ball is going for each club. It also tells you club head speed, ball speed and tempo. In practice mode there is tempo training, target practice and virtual rounds. Tempo training allows you to choose swing type and uses audible tones to help you. Pretty useful. Target Practice allows you to pick yardage targets and play for a score. 3 rings around the pin. 5 shots per target. You can also play 2 players. A lot of fun. Virtual Round allows you to choose 1 of 41000 course to play. It shows you the overhead of the hole and gives you the yardage. You choose your club and hit the ball. The launch monitor tells you how far the ball went and calculates the distance for you next shot. The next shot into the green is shown landing in the green rolling to the pin. There is three rings, ring 1 +1 stroke, ring 2 +2 strokes and ring 3 +3 strokes. It then calculates your score and you move to the next hole. Can play 2 players. A lot of fun. The virtual tournament, once paired to your phone through the Garmin app, allows you to play a tournament against other golfers. If you choose to play an existing tournament you play the course the pros are playing that weekend. Your score is posted on the leaderboard. You can create your own tournament to play with your buddies. (I have not done this). Not sure how well it works. It only picks up distance. No left or right. You have to use your own sight to see flight of the ball. So you can bounce it off the wall of the dome and it will give you a distance. But consistency is what we are looking for and this helps you with that. It is a great device for practicing. “If you are going to practice, practice perfect “ I was always told and now I can. And I can’t wait to get to the range again. Sorry I have no knowledge about the actual GPS part of it as I can’t play outside yet. I am really looking forward to using it. Come on spring. It appears to have some neat features. The hole shows you the 200, 150 and 100 yard markers. You can mark spots and it shows you where your driving distance would land. So the Garmin G80 Approach helps makes golfing extra fun. Scott R.
