Like finding a pearl in my oyster.
I have been watching western movies for 6 plus decades. Thought I had seen every good one out there. I was wrong. This movie has gorgeous scenery, way above average screenplay, excellent acting by a very good cast, and didn’t quite fall into the cliche trap i was expecting. Stumbling on to this gem was like drilling a well for water and striking oil. Wish I could find a few more pleasant surprises in this genre.

Good Acting as Always, but Not Robert Taylor's Best Western
No boring parts, well, maybe where 'Joan" sings to Tony for a minute, but the rest is full of excitement where you don't dare get up and leave the room without pausing. Two brothers- Steve, a retired gunman who takes up ranching. Tony, the younger who loves his gun and practices to be fast and also a partner on the S&S ranch together (also excellent performance by John Cassevetese) . Together they are buying the ranch which is 1/3 of the Valley from Mr. Deneen (Donald Crisp) who owns the rest of the Valley. Even the town's property, bank, bar, hotel, etc is leased or sold to them by Mr. Deneen. In the beginning scene a gunfighter comes to town (similar to the Shane town setting) looking for Steve Sinclair and is hold up in the upstairs hotel until he shows his face in town. In the meantime, Tony has been out of the area selling some cattle and returns home with his saddle bags full of money- and a girl he brought back who was a saloon singer. Many reviewers have stated that this is Robert Taylor's best performance. I think everything of Robert Taylor is very good, but you need to see his BEST character in Westward the Women. That is a 5-star classic. The Hangman is also very good and with 'surprise ending'. All 3 of these westerns are good, but definitely get Westward the Women. It's the best of the 3.

Saddle the Wind hits the mark
Well I wasn't sure about this but I took a chance. And I'm glad I did. This is a good watch. Robert Taylor was quite believable as an older brother cowboy. From his ease in the saddle, riding a horse in various settings and his general delivery of a cowboy character. He does an admirable job attempting to keep the younger kid brother in line to no avail.Take chance. You'll like this western.

Western Movie
It is a Western of the old style, very melodramatic. It is an OK movie and if one like westerns it is a good movie, just a bit too stilted for me.

Psychological Western
I bought this movie primarily because of John Cassavetes (as the younger brother) and Rod Serling (screenplay), not to mention that the music was by Elmer Bernstein and Robert Taylor (the older brother) and Julie London (saloon singer/fiancée) were also actors in it. Rod Serling is a talented writer and he does not disappoint with this script - an interesting study of character and psychology, bringing in the adverse impact of a poor (unfortunate) upbringing, on the 3 main characters - the two damaged brothers, the elder making a good effort to go straight and to help his brother, and a needy young woman/saloon singer. Then, to form it all into a fine package, there is a father figure - a distant and moral man (perhaps representing the super-ego) - in the character Mr Deneen, who virtually owns the valley and allows Robert Taylor to own 1/3 of it, although Taylor's continued ownership is jeopardized by the crazy younger brother, whose anger plays out in gunfights and anti-authority behaviour. The characters go through some subtle personal changes, and the movie ends in an unexpected manner. So, the template is old western, but the themes are modern. Cheaper to buy than going to the movies and more than worth it. Saddle the WindSaddle the Wind

SADDLE THE WIND (1958)
This movie was first released in 1958(2008) in widescreen 2.35.1, Metrocolour and runs 84 minutes. A good trailor is the extra. The sound and the picture quality are fine. Tony brings Joan Blake (JULIE LONDON) to the farm to marry. She sees his dark side. Steve tries to help Tony, but Tony , now grown up, wants to do his own things. Will Tony last? What will Steve do to keep Tony out of trouble?
