This is a semi-fiction. It is well written and it is hard to differentiate the original history and fiction. It will definitely take the reader to 10th century. The twists and turns in the story will make you read all 5 parts. No wonder many reader read this book multiple times. The author gets one additional star for the power he gave to the woman characters in the book. They drive the story from the beginning. Loved it!

I be never read anything so thrilling and filled with suspense at the end of each chapter. The story behind Chozha dynasty's most important ruler " Raja Raja Chozhan" and his family/friends has been narrated in the best way possible. Kalki is the most versatile author ever. He has captured all the essences of life, like " Love, hatred, revenge, politics, scandal, murder, friendship, loyalty, greed, religion, patriotism and more" , all in one novel. I am just a beginner in reading Tamizh. I started reading this in English ( Pavithra Srinivasan's translation) which was very good. But so far only 3 parts have been released. I could not keep up with the suspense and hence started reading it in Tamizh with much difficulty! I am so glad that I did, otherwise I would have missed one of the best historical novels ever.

I read three times the novel, still it is more interesting and intriguing to read again. Anyone can rarely find an equivalent of this book across any other languages. I haven’t read even in English language a similar novel. Simply the best.

Loved the way history was told in a very engaging and interesting way. Must read for all tamilians and proud indians!

I will return story full of interesting Chola history. Good explanation of history a wonderful development of all the important characters in the book.

I am not writing about the story-I am sure anyone who knows tamil has either read the book or at least heard of this classic. This is about the kindle edition. Generally good work but there are some spelling errors which you get used to. Also some chapters in the fifth volume-I think chapters 23-28-are missing a few paragraphs at the end. Otherwise for USD1.99 you cant go wrong.....

Could not stop reading. For a historic novel, this is par excellence!! So glad it was available in kindle thank you.

Really enjoyed reading ponniyin selvan. It is a truly captivating story. Though it was a long read, the book has a very interesting story with lots of unexpected twists and turns all throughout.
