Play Better With This Book!
When your guitar is setup properly, you'll play better. This book will help you reach your full potential as a guitarist! After buying a new Telecaster, which felt great in the store, I bought this book to maximize its playability. The result was an impressive improvement that was easy to accomplish!I also bought the following tools to aid me: - CruzTools GuitarTech Guitar Kit (available on Amazon) - Stewart Macdonald string action gauge (stewmac.com) - Stewar Macdonald understring radius gauges (stewmac.com)The tools cost me around $85 total, and were well worth it because they gave me everything I needed to set up my Tele. They conveniently store in a handy case that keeps them all in one place. It appears that these same tools will allow me to setup my acoustic and bass guitars, although I haven't tried it yet.The book also gives you setup specs from multiple professional players. Once you measure your specs, you'll be able to compare them to the pros and isolate areas for improvement.Even if you ultimately take your guitar into a luthier, you'll benefit from knowing the basics of setup.

Good information
The book is full of good information , charts and tips. Focuses a lot on Floyd’s Rose Tremlo and tremloes in general. That’s alright I’m sure there are a lot of them out there. To sum it up yes it’s a good book to have around

Rambling wisdom, not a step by step
Lots of wisdom in here, but it's not great if you're looking for a step by step setup guide. Every chapter seems to go off on tangents on specific instruments. Also, there's nothing about fretwork, nutmaking or electronics. Simply a guide to setting up and maintaining an instrument.

Very nice book
I got this book around 3 years ago when I got into guitar for the first time. The book is very informative and goes over a lot of information. You get some basic "tools" but still need to buy files and such to really tweak the guitar. For anyone who is tired of bringing the guitar to the shop and paying money to get the guitar in tune and at its best, this book is for you.

Excellent book on guitar setup
This is a great book. I've got this one and "Guitar Player: Repair Guide", both by Dan Erlewine, for setting up and repairing my guitars, and between them they've covered every need I've ever had. Erlewine draws from his own extensive knowledge as a guitar technician, but also refers to his savvy friends for excellent tips on how to make the most of your guitar, whichever style you've got. I've set up all my guitars myself, cheap and expensive ones, guided by this book. It was a breeze, and they now sound and play just like I want them to. I've even set up guitars for friends with my new found knowledge. The book covers everything you could think of during a setup in step-by-step instructions. It also contains good illustrations and examples where needed. If you own a guitar, you should own this book. Your not a real guitarist until you know how to set up your instrument.

Some great information
Good information and some realy good tips on how to set up and adjust your guitar. However some sections you cannot use for quick reference, you have to read the whole section which for some topics is not a bad thing.

The Essential Book!
I got this book a while back and wow!I am a professional design engineer, and thought I knew allot about maintenance, I was wrong. After reading this book cover to cover a number of times on the way to work (train) I set about using it to set my guitars/ bass's up. Now each and every one of them not only sounds infinitely clearer and more even then ever before (I use Seymour Duncans by the way). What's more, they feel and play better than I have ever had them. I have also picked up so much knowledge about guitar repair and setup that I didn't even know existed. In short, if you play guitar or bass, you cant afford not to buy this book. The £10 cost is like a very cheep universal upgrade!

Electric guitar book - GREAT
This book is a refreshing change from many in this field. Not only does it cover procedures for setting up electric guitars in a comprehensive manner, it does so in plain English and with useful (and not too many) images. Although I have picked up enough to turn a dog or even an OK guitar into one far more playable over the years, I have already learnt a great deal and have decided to take a couple of my guitars right back to basics to implement some of this guy's tips and techniques. Not only does he break down the various ways of improving different types of mechanism found on most mass produced instruments, his process fr assessing the condition of a guitar is the best I have ever read. The inclusion of the bridge and fretboard radius gauges is also very helpful, making it more likely that readers will actually put Mr Erlewine's advice into practice. I've given it four stars as I think there is room for improvement, but nevertheless, it is a very, very good book.

A Worthwhile Purchase
Got this book a few weeks ago. I have a couple Les Paul style guitars both with TOM bridges and a couple of Strat copies. This book covers all of them and plenty more besides. As other reviewers have noted there is no proper alphabetical index so it loses a a star there but most of what you need for serious guitar set up is here from simple fingerboard maintenance thru to neck resetting and electrics. All in all a great buy for anyone who owns an electric guitar and wants to learn how set it up well.
