Prized for centuries in the Orient, the shiitake mushroom has a hearty flavor and meaty texture. Shiitakes are valued in Japan for their delicious taste and heralded for their healthful effects. Shiitakes are delicious with baked fish, in omelets or in soups and stir-fry dishes. Try substituting rehydrated shiitakes for all or part of the beef in your favorite stroganoff recipe.

Good flavor 1
These tasted really good. After rehydrating by soaking in hot water for 30 min, I squeezed out the excess liquid, rinsed them off, then added to an Asian stir fry recipe. Normally we use fresh shiitake, but with the pandemic, we have been going to the grocery store less often so these were convenient to have on hand and store for longer than could be done with fresh mushrooms. After soaking and scooping our the mushrooms, the liquid can be poured through a seive lined with a coffee filter, then used in a recipe in place of broth or in cooking rice for a really nice mushroom flavor. I would have given five stars except that there were quite a few stems, which are supposed to be removed from shiitakes since they are woody and tough. The stems are fine for making broth/stock, as long as you remove the stems after boiling/soaking them. So, no big loss.

Will order more
Great flavor, sliced thin with dense Shitaki flavor. They were very clean dried mushrooms. The price was less than the grocery store. I will try the Porcini and hope they are as great.

Very little taste; too rubbery to eat
We had high hopes for these mushrooms, but sadly, they ended up to be a waste of money. We followed the directions, but after reconstituting them and using them for cooking, they were inedible - so rubbery and tasteless.

Too soft to make powder(dust)
Don’t buy if you want to make mushroom powder(dust). They are too soft
