The Brain

Of course it's dumb and my being here is not to my credit.
I like horror films and always prefer creatures to slashers. That's worth 2 stars. It's educational. Sodium reacts violently with water. Do NOT try this at home! When you want to outrun the cops, steal an AMC Gremlin. By God, it works. That's the 3rd star. The fourth star is because the language is not తెలుగు like damn near every new addition to Prime in the last several months. What's up with that Amazon? You don't let us see the entire list of movies that you claim to have and now we can only see half as many as before because the other half is crap that we don't care about and in a language that 99% of us don't speak. Please everyone, if you agree then let Amazon know in the "Tell us how we can improve" box at the bottom of the page. Let them know that we need to be able to select a language within our movie search. Yes, it is medication time.

Scream Factory brings 1988's "The Brain" to blu-ray in style
The 1988 science fiction/horror film "The Brain" while not being a good movie is still very entertaining. The basic plot involves a television host Dr. Blakely played by legendary actor David Gale (Re-Animator) who hosts a sort of self help show to assist with independent thinking. It turns out however that he is using a creature called The Brain to brainwash and exert mind control over his viewers. The plot is actually interesting but the film is undermined at every turn by a minuscule budget and ham fisted directorial choices along with goofy creature effects. Even though it is a bad movie in my opinion, it transcends its ineptness to become something truly entertaining and unintentionally hilarious. This is due to everyone involved tried to make the best film that they could but failed."The Brain" makes its long overdue blu-ray debut courtesy of Scream Factory. Prior to this release the film was only available on VHS and laserdisc as of 1989 and on DVD in the UK as of 2011. Rather than just using an outdated master, Scream Factory went all in on this release in which they did a 4K transfer from the original camera negative. Presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio utilizing the AVC codec at an average bit rate of 35, the film truly looks spectacular. Detail is superb and contrast along with black levels look accurate. Most people used to seeing "The Brain" on crummy VHS will feel like they are seeing it for the first time upon seeing it in restored high definition. (I did confirm with Scream Factory directly that despite the blu-ray itself stating it is a 2K scan from the only surviving film elements, that this was an error and they did go ahead with a full 4K scan of the original camera negative as stated on their web site.)Sound is presented in 2 channel master audio sounding a bit thin with some hiss at times. This seems to be a result of how the audio was recorded and not a fault of the blu-ray itself. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired. While not being a collector's edition, Scream Factory loaded their release of "The Brain" with not one, not two, but three commentary tracks along with some cool interviews. Full specs are as follows pulled from Scream Factory's site:NEW 4K Scan Of The Original NegativeNEW Audio Commentary With Director Ed HuntNEW Audio Commentary With Composer Paul ZazaNEW Audio Commentary With Actor Tom BresnahanNEW Canada On The Mind – An Interview With Actress Cynthia Preston (11 minutes)NEW From Monster Kid To Monster Man – An Interview With Actor George Buza (12 minutes)NEW Brain Art – An Interview With Assistant Art Director Michael Borthwick (13 minutes)NEW Food For Thought: A Love Letter To The Brain (11 minutes)Still Gallery"The Brain" will not be for everyone but for those with a penchant for so bad it's great cinema, it is a true cult classic in that regard. Scream Factory gives it a terrific blu-ray release with a bunch of cool extras that makes the disc highly recommended.

Kept My Brain Entertained
I grew up renting loads of Horror movies from the local Mom and Pop rental store. Not sure I ever saw The Brain sitting there because the cover is kind of plain. It arrived yesterday, I watched it last night, and The Brain is fantastic. Low budget sure, but it's well acted and the plot feels just as relevant to today. It has some great practical effects and everything about it kept me engaged. The Scream Factory Blu-ray looks good, it has quite a few extras too for not being a collector's edition.

MAJALESKI!!!!
If you grew up in the 80s then you you will completely get the humor of the brainwashed parents and overall "so called Dr " opinions about teenage youth especially if you happened to be into punk rock. Can't believe I missed this one growing up but thanks again to SF they found another hidden gem and released a new find for horror and scifi fans. If you're looking for something entertaining and outside of the usual horror realm then this is for you. I'd compare it to Brain Damage as far as the type of film goes. Low budget and fun. Enjoy

Solid creature feature
Great picture and sound. Not much blood though the only reason for the R rating because the scientist Vivian is topless on two occasions

Fun 80s cheese
This is a fun little 80s monster movie that I’ve actually never seen until now and it’s not bad. I highly recommend it if you like 80s horror movies. By no means is it great but it’s just enough to be enjoyable. Great creature effects for sure.

Campy B-movie fun with lots of stair climbing
Have you ever wondered what Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would look without CGI? Behold The Brain, an 80s gem showcasing a monster controlling the minds of a town via a public access show.

Crap. 5 Stars!
I love camp, trashy 80's horror and this certainly doesn't disappoint. I remember seeing The Brain years ago and thought it was brilliant. It's certainly in the so-bad-its-good category. Quite nice practical effects when you can ignore the times when it's clearly a bloke in a suit, and not mentioning the time when you can see stagehands pushing the brain around on wheels. Despite this, it's genuinely pretty funny. The other film, Hollow Point, is a complete dud. It's some dreadful TV film that should never have been made, but this DVD is worth it for The Brain alone.

After All of These Years...The Brain Has Finally Arrived!!
I have only seen this movie twice (back in the early 90's on late night TV, and the 2nd time when I rented it on VHS) and I remembered how much I enjoyed it. When I heard that Shout Factory was releasing it on Blu Ray (through Amazon) I re-ordered it immediately. My wife told me I was making a mistake because what if, after all of these years, I did not like it. I decided to take a chance and ordered it. When I received it, and watched it, I was not disappointed. I love it. Sure, it may be a bit "cheesy" at times, but that's one of it's strengths. Also, it was filmed in an around Toronto, Canada (about 2 hours from where I live) and I enjoyed seeing the locations. (Where the countryside is in the film, now, it's all filled in with "suburbia".) As a horror movie, it's a good one, considering they did not have much of a budget to work with, however, for a 1988 film, the picture quality looks quite decent. As for the story, I found it quite interesting regarding mind control over the masses. (Of course, that couldn't happen today, right?) Also, the movie has one of my "All Time Favorite Horror Actors" in it....the late, great David Gale. (From Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator Fame, to name a couple of movies.) Thank you Scream Factory (and Amazon) for releasing this classic and almost forgotten gem of a horror movie.

Classic Canadian cult film that deserves a double-bill with the Blob remake.
The definition of the 80s drive-in movie. Fun, silly, dumb, and gross. I normally seek out gory fright flicks, but this one was so much fun that I didn't notice the sparse amount of blood until reflecting on it later.
