Can this be used for dry vacuuming? And how does this clean grout between tile lines

I have tried this for dry vac and tile grout. First off, it is really meant to suck up water. Yes, it will do large items on the floor but not fine dust and dirt from every day. It will suck it up with the water though. As for grout, if you have deep crevice grout, as in the grout is not flush with the top of the tile, you will still need to scrub the grout. I have both and then I also have uneven stone that has pores and crevices in the tile itself and it also doesn't do well on those but it does better than a regular mop EVER did.

Can you use your own solution

I have a 20 yr old carpet cleaning Bissel and I use my own solution. Of course the manufacturer will only endorse their own cleaning products. They can't guarantee the results if you use something else. I use 3% hydrogen peroxide with hot water. Use a 1 to 5.5 ratio. (1 peroxide to 5.5 parts water) It cleans, disinfects, and is great for pet stains. Won't hurt your machine using this formula. Hint: Try a 1 to 1 ratio in a spray bottle for cleaning your shower, bathtub and tiles. It kills mildew on contact, nixes the scum on glass and brightens your tub.

What's the difference between the 1785a model and 1785w model?

The direct answer is that Bissell® CrossWave® All-in-One Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vac 1785A and 1785W has no difference. Bissell just marks the A letter to indicate this model is sold directly on Amazon website, while 1785W model is sold on Walmart website.

Two questions. 1. Does the cleaning solution have an odor (I have allergies)? 2. Can this be used to freshen an oriental area rug

NO, DON'T wreck your oriental rug (assuming it's made of wool)! I have 3 oriental rugs, all of them100% wool. They are dry clean only. You do NOT want to use ANY home rug cleaning machine like this one because the water (and even more so, water and the rug cleaning solution combined) will pull the color out of your rug and/or make the colors of your beautiful oriental rug run. If it's really dirty, have it professionally dry cleaned by a reputable dry cleaning company (we sent one of our rugs out for this. Yes it's expensive but they really got our rug clean). Otherwise, use a specially made cleaner like 'Capture Carpet Dry Cleaner Powder' and a carpet-cleaning brush. But check the fiber content of your rug. Is it a genuine oriental rug made of wool, or is it a synthetic look-alike? If it's an American-made 'oriental' there should be a tag on the bottom telling you the fiber content and the manufacturer. If that's the case, check with the manufacturer regarding cleaning methods.
