Read the manual! But, yes, it can cut.
I bought this to cut some ~1/8" steel. In particular, this rack:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RYYY7C?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsThe two rows of holes on each post are in line with each other so the rear set needs to be cut off. Not knowing that before I bought that rack, I bought this grinder to do the cutting. I was shocked to find that the manual claims that this grinder cannot be used for cut-off applications, because it doesn't say that anywhere on the Amazon page, or even on Bosch's website, unless you download the manual. However, other manufacturers such as Makita offer similar-sized grinders with the same or lesser specs that claim to support cut-off work, so I figured why not give it a shot. And sure enough, it works just fine. Just don't lay into it too hard and let the disc do the work. Also, wear adequate PPE and a dust mask or respirator, it generates tons of particles and stinks as the disc wears.Other 4.5" Bosch grinders claim to support cut-off applications, but it seems that Bosch has discontinued the "optional" cut-off guard, and finding guards for other brands of 4.5" grinders seemed equally challenging at this price point. It would appear that most people just toss a cut off disc in there and go, using the included "Type 27" guard that comes stock with this and any other brand of entry-level grinder. User beware, and be careful, but there are loads of videos on YouTube showing people using grinders to cut metal with Type 27 guards installed.Installing a Type 1 (flat) disc doesn't leave a lot of clearance with the included guard though, so I opted for a Type 27 cutoff wheel. This has the depressed center like the included grinding wheel, and offers better clearance. The one I got (Norton Blue Fire) says to use it with Type 27 guards, which happens to be what's included with this grinder. Despite this, the manual says not to use the included Type 27 guard for cut-off applications. It appears that there's a lot of conflicting information as to what can and can't be done. Or rather, what should or shouldn't be done. But for everyone wondering if this grinder is suitable for cutting, the answer is yes. Buy it, you'll be happy. It's inexpensive, and if you burn it out, just buy another. It'll still be less expensive than some of the other higher-end models out there. You'll be happy.

What guy reads the instructions!?
I mean really! I was so confused when I read some of these reviews about how the manual states you can't use this grinder for cutting!TLDR: YOU MOST CERTAINLY CAN USE THIS GRINDER FOR CUTTING.Long story is this is considered Bosh's budget friendly model so it comes without a case or the fancy vibration reducing handle, and it also comes with there most basic guard FOR the included wheel. They thoughtfully included a Type 27 grinding disk to get you started. Bosh used to make a proper sized cutting guard for this grinder but for whatever reason no longer do, so instead of offering you the parts that were intended for the device they just rewrite the user manual to coverup there shortcomings. But as you can see from the pictures I've included it's really easy to use your newly purchased grinder to make the necessary modifications. I personally like to use a Type 41 cutting wheel with the offset hub but I find it difficult to find the good diamond wheels like that. Usually they are a Type 1 flat disk which puts it much closer to the guard. I tried to allow enough guard to be left to still allow me to use it for a Type 27 grinding wheel so I don't need to have multiple guards for multiple wheels. I do occasionally use wire cones but use them without a guard and if and when I get a flat wire wheel I will cross that bridge when I come to it but don't expect too much if an issue.I personally like to use my tools with the guards but I like the guards to stay out of my way as well. I find this is an easy fix to the problem and a fun first project as well. Instructions!? LolPS I did all the work you see with the Denali grinder in the background as like I said I like to work WITH guards. 😉 I would recommend both grinders for the price to anyone who is looking.

Powerful and handy.
Handles well and plenty of power. Used with diamond blade for cutting stone backsplash with no problems at all.

Fairly good for the price
Now, disclaimer, I'm fairly novice with grinders. I bought this for the welding class I'm in, in which I grind lots of metal all day everyday. It's pretty resilient, fairly powerful, and still smaller than others which to me is great. I do have some complaints though, some may be more specific to my situation than others, I'm not sure. The tool itself while small can still be awkward to hold, especially if what your grinding is higher up than hips/waist height, the placement of the handle going more forwards also adds to this problem. Another issue is how the safety guard attaches/adjusts, it goes on the very back layer and you have to position it properly in one of the set places, then screw it tight to keep it there, meaning if you frequently want/need to adjust, it's pretty tedious. Overall it's plenty great for my purposes, just some minor things to consider and how it will impact your usage

Powerful grinder in a small format. I LOVE it!!!
If you’re wondering if this small grinder is powerful enough, it definitely is. I can’t even imagine needing a more powerful motor than this 7.5 amp one on this grinder. It Grinds AND CUTS with a cutoff wheel excellently. The motor is more quiet and smoother than other grinders I have used in the past.I love how ergonomic it is. It’s pretty slender and fits in your hand well. It feels solid and high quality, yet isn’t too heavy to hold onto for a long time. I can’t believe how inexpensive this one is. It’s worth its weight in gold.JUST BUY IT, you won’t regret it!!

Bosch makes solid heavy duty tools - one complaint
This is a minor complaint, but I wish they would show the spindle size in this listing. I purchased a grinding wheel and it doesn't fit this grinder because the hole isn't large enough. Absolutely not a big deal but I don't understand why the spindle size isn't depicted somewhere in this listing.
