I am pleased with the sword overall. I am in general a weapons enthusiast and hunter. I am familiar with, use and own a variety of firearms and knives, but by no means an expert on military weapons, swords or martial arts. This was my first purchase of a katana. I chose this sword due to its moderate price, design and look. I was hoping a sword of this value would be higher in quality than something less than $100. I am happy with my purchase. I have bought inexpensive swords and had some with warped blades. This is not the case with this one. It was straight and it seems well-balanced. I did notice a small blemish (see photo) on the honed edge of the blade near the habaki or blade collar. This could be normal for this type of sword. I thought it was unusual because I did not see the same mark on the other side of the blade. In the first photo the blemish appears as a dull looking triangle. The second photo shows the hamon flawless in the same location on the other side of the blade.

The katana arrived well packaged to keep it from getting banged around during shipping. The sword was exactly as advertised. I found the tsuka to be extremely well wrapped. I was happy with the design work on the tsuba. The sword itself is quite sharp, not as sharp as my other katana but after reading the reviews it was as sharp as I expected. I was pleasantly surprised by the art work on the saya, I was not expecting that at all. The only issue I had was the khaki stuck at the opening of the saya. I contacted the company and they confirmed my remedy which was to file down the inside of the opening to the saya. Within 10 minutes the katana slide in and out smoothly without sticking. I would certainly recommend purchasing from Handmade Sword. Great quality and customer service.
