Total piece of crap.
Don't buy this microphone. I bought it on Amazon and it is 12 times as expensive as a lapal microphone which btw work without complain. This microphone I purchased in March. I am using a One plus 5 T phone and first of all this microphone is not detected on the main camera which still records sound from inbuilt mic despite having this put on.I had to download an external app (Open Camera) which detects this mic and did record well in initial 2-3 videos. However barely after a month of purchase and been shot only 3 videos of 10-15 minutes each this mic stopped recording voice in middle of an interview I was doing. I was infuriated. It did record some faint sound later in other video but the quality was not as good as earlier.I called their suppliers here in india and they said we are located at delhi. Register your device online for a warranty and send it to us by courier. I don't expect this equipment to come back before one month.Honestly, I didn't expect to have such bad experience with a microphone 12 times more expensive than some fine lapal mic.I will not buy an expensive microphone from an established company like Rode. Disappointed.

Kills noise totally
Just love this. Sound quality much better and kills all the noise at background. Ideal for people who record at noisy places. Just that it works only with phones. Also for Android devices the default camera app will not detect this mic and will record from camera mic only. To prevent this use third party apps. I use open camera app. Although audio recording apps detects it.

Not suitable for normal room condition
I want to record videos using smartphone for Youtube. I realized sound quality is very important.I was looking for a micro phone to record - human voice under conditions of running ceiling fan and open windows. This mic captured ambient sounds from all directions like bike horn, hammering in far houses, flute seller etc.Biggest problem was FAN noise. Fur didn't help at all.My 1100/- Ahuja omni-directional microphone performed as good as this one. Will look for another directional mic for human voice recording.

Volume from my phone mic and from this mic is the same
You know what, the review given by the customer in the section was correct. It did not boost in any volume than my phone's built in microphone. to be more precise I used a spectrum analyser. I noticed that the volume given by my phone's inbuilt microphone and the volume from this microphone was the same. Rode people please do something please improve this product. If the mic needs USB power to increase the microphone sensitivity please add that feature but make the product better

Excellent for YouTube video shooting, office conferencing calls
All buyers note: This product is for iPhone (older than iPhone 7) and older than iPad Pro, since newer models do not have a 3.5 mm jack. Even if you have a converter, it leaves you with a dangling unfixed mic which doesn’t serve the purpose.Pros:- Sound quality is crystal clear, even with a 3 ft distance. Impressive clarity.- It points directly on to your face, and so other noise is limited- BIGGEST ADVANTAGE: Headphone jack behind the mic, you can use it for call conferencing by attaching it via aux to any of your speaker. And believe me, it cancels all the noise and the other person doesn’t hear any echo. I am actually using it for this for my office calls.Cons:- Noise cancellation could have been better, but still is fine with quality of sound.I am using it in my iPad Air 2 for office conferencing Skype and Zoom calls other than YouTube video shoots. Hit like if you find the review useful.

When combined with a good camera phone
Rode is famous for their microphones and this one is no exception. When combined with a good camera phone, it becomes a quick compact video production unit. of course, it would unfair to compare this model with the higher end ones, we still get better audio on our phone footage. It also depends on how the phone camera software captures the sound. Some mobile phone camera allow external audio source and it works really great on those.

Everything you need for your work
It's a useful mic for android phones that really cuts down background noises. I am a musician and I work with all sorts of recording devices manufactured and marketed by different companies. Frankly, this one is the best for my purpose. I recorded video and audio with the ceiling fan on and its sound hardly interfered in the recording. I only wish the price was less for a country like India or Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal...

Amazing but comes with a price.
Hands down, it can handle wind noise like a piece of cake. In all the youtube reviews they show it to pick up audio only from the front 180°, this is quite true for outside environments. When it comes to indoors the sound bouces and gets picked up, it also picks up echo.If you're looking for a mic for vlogging, get the a cheaper one.. Once you grow you can shift it to rode.

Trust your own ears !
Honestly, i was hesitating to buy this mic cuz of all the negative reviews on here. When on the contrary on youtube this is the best non-professional mic almost every YouTuber is recommending. I ve watched their field tests and i was impressed. So, i went on and bought this mic despite the negative reviews here. And i am glad i ignored them!First of all i am not giving the full 5 stars because of the deceiving description thus some of the negative reviews. The box states clearly that this mic is meant for Apple products ONLY. I don't know if it has to do with the software but definitely has to do with the position on your mic's jack. So yes it is not meant for phones that the camera is next to the mic jack, when it comes to this feature at least , as i don't know (but probably won't matter but..) what can be the problem with other phone's software to use this mic. When it comes to performance it definitely deserves the whole 5 stars and more. Don't trust someone's hearing ability to decided! Trust your own ears and that is what youtube videos are for. And there is a plethora of reviews for that brand and for the specific mic and they can't ALL be sponsored to support them nor all to be lying nor to be incapable of hearing!I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money for a mic for everyday vlogging and i hate wires! The price is to be taken seriously here as this is not an amount of money you wouldn't be upset to throw down the drain if not happy so do your research depending on your needs! Amazon's policy with returns and all the reviews and test fields from so many people on youtube about this brand made me give it a go.At the end of the day i could have tried it and if not happy return it but that is not happening for me with this mic and i am so glad i went the extra money for a well-known brand so i dont have to return anything now to get the well-known brand at the end!

Wind noise reduced and directional is amazing!
I bought this to improve my YouTube videos for my sons channel (Henry's Hysterical History). The videos before this were suffering from wind noise and were picking up a lot of background audio that I didn't want. The microphone comes with a wind muffler to reduce wind noise. This is effective, but doesn't fit as tightly as I would like - I am genuinely worried at times ti will fall off if I'm tipping the mic forwards so might look at other attachment methods. The clipping method is brilliant and works flawlessly on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I also use this with my DJI Osmo Gimbal so have bought an extension cable to mount the microphone onto the gimbal instead.Directional audio has vastly improved the sound quality and allows me to focus the audio recording on the subject of the video and cut out a lot of background cars or chatter.Overall I highly recommend this if you plan on using your videos for anything more than home use. Audio is hard to fix in post production so getting it right first time is a life saver.

Total rubbish... buy at your peril...!!
This sounds like a good, simple idea, unfortunately it does NOT work on many Samsung Phones, they seem to think they have been clever by using a TRRS connector which just does not work on many android phones, no adapter cable can be used as it connects directly into the phone socket.I was actually looking for an On Off switch as the audio was so poor, much worse than the phones built in microphone, I wouldnt mind but this has been highlighted many times on line, unfortunately I didnt see the very poor feedback for this microphone, some problems going back for more than two years which they clearly couldnt be botherd to resolve.Unreliable, complete video blog scrapped because the microphone just did not record, the list goes on and on, WIFI and bluetooth interferance and more all reported. It seems incredible they would say this will work with all Smart phones and clearly havent even checked it out first, pathetic comes to mind. This was tried on a S8+, S7 Edge and IPhone, it never worked properly on any of them...as I said, rubbish... !!

Very useable if you have an older phone.
To preface, I'm a professional audio engineer and I've taught music and music production for two years.I used one of these a few years ago when the college I was working at bought some. Initially I was impressed. The improved directionality and 'focus' from what is essentially a mini shotgun mic was notably better than my phone or the college's iPads could capture internally.Since then I've bought a new phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 10+) and its mics are much cleverer than those on the iPad Air, to the point that doing an A/B test of this versus an internal phone mic recording showed very little difference. While it was noticeably better through the Røde, the difference only presented itself through professional-grade reference headphones (when I'm just recording little demos on my phone, I don't usually plug in headphones at all - let alone the big fragile expensive ones).I think that's the main problem with this mic. For the kinds of things I'm likely to record with it it's less convenient to have to plug it in every time - so much so that after a few weeks I think I'd just not bother. Not to mention that my phone (and most others these days) doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, so it's dangling off a 1" dongle cable. As for it's main role as a video mic, on a device that has a headphone jack it does clip on nicely and point at your subject, ignoring lots of surrounding noise...but my phone's mic is just as good. The Røde's larger diaphragm definitely helps in terms of frequency range, but for acoustic instruments and vocals it makes little difference. This is not a bad microphone. I got it for £40 and would've kept it if my phone wasn't so good as to make it superfluous.
