This is my second one, another workhorse
In a previous house I installed the 1 horsepower version of this disposal, and recently installed this newer, 1.1 horsepower version, and it looks and performs virtually identically.I have attached a photo of the completed installation to address two things. First, circled in red is the pipe coming down from the other side of the sink, which goes into a T which is where the drain from the disposal connects. I had to replace the original downpipe with the longer one shown in the picture in order to be sure that the drain pipe from the disposal (circled in blue) has a downward slope away from the disposal. This prevents water/debris from standing in the bottom of the disposal and creating a smelly situation.I point this out because if you are replacing a smaller or older disposal they typically are shorter units, so the T where they connect can be too high for proper drainage from the newer, longer, lower disposals. Also note that you have to either re-use the electrical connecting cord from your old disposal, or do like I did and purchase a new one like this one: InSinkErator CRD-00 Power Cord KitI also purchased the disposal connector kit, but only ended up using one of the spring clamps from it, but I was glad I had it on hand in case I had needed it: InSinkErator DWC-00 Dishwasher Connector KitOnce installed, this thing is an absolute beast. I have tested, and you can indeed put bones down it, which is satisfying after spending so much on a disposal. However, in daily use we don't use it for bones, but it's nice to know it would work if we did. It's also very quiet, to the point that we have to be careful not to leave it running accidentally. This was NOT a problem with our old one, which was about as quiet as an angry bull with a machine gun in a china shop.Another nice feature of this disposal is that the black drain insert leaves only a small hole for things to accidentally drop down, but it's flexible so if and when you push stuff down it flexes out of the way. It's also removable, meaning you can pop it out and clean the underside of it, whereas with our older one the collar was fixed and you couldn't clean the underside, which led to smell problems.Keep in mind that a secondary effect of the narrower opening is that water also drains more slowly. When I finished installing this I did a leak and drain test by placing dry paper towels all over the bottom of the undersink storage (to serve as visual moisture detectors), then filled both sides of the sink with stoppers in place and let it sit for a couple of hours to see if there were any static leaks. I then popped out both plugs and let both sinks drain at full force, also checking for any leaks. I noticed that the side with the new disposal drained significantly slower than when the old disposal was in place, and I worried that I had a clog or plumbing problem. However, I quickly realized that the black rubber collar provided a narrower opening, and just to be sure I popped the collar out as part of the next drain test, and the sink drained as quickly as expected.I expect this thing to last a looong time. It's built like a tank. Also, we regularly clean out the system by first putting a couple of lemon halves down it and grinding them up, followed by a bunch of ice cubes, which act as an abrasive to clean crap off the blades and interior sections. It might seem like this thing is expensive, and it is, but if you plan to keep your house for a while, or you just want a trouble-free, quiet disposal that can handle virtually anything, you can't beat this unit - highly recommended.

Great Performer with Caveat
I can't add much to what's already been said here except to stress that the in-sink drain's rubber baffle is something that may not appeal to some cooks. You'll have to get used to shoving every scrap through the rubber barrier in the sink. The water is slow to drain through it and all food particles must be pushed down the hole for none will slide through easily. I'm willing to get used to this change because the machine IS SO QUIET AND EFFICIENT, not a crumb stays in its bowl--I checked with a flashlight to be sure. I may purchase the Norpro 92 Super Stuffer as a tool to help me stuff. I'll give myself time to get used to the new machine before i decide if I need one.

Best disposer on the market!!!
I have always had an Insinkerator disposal. This one is way above all the rest. Extremely quiet. Powerful!! It does drain slower than my old unit but it out performs anything else. Did I say quiet? Quality comes with a price but this is a great value. Easy install and with a power cord included!. A 12 year warranty means I should never have to buy another one! You can't go wrong with this disposer!!

Very, Very Quiet
My old garbage disposer was 21 years old and I decided to get a new one before it died on me. Disposers don't come from Tiffany's, so the more you pay for them the more value you receive. I went for the very best which means I paid a lot for it. The In-Sink-Erator PRO1100XL is very, very quiet, just a whisker above a whisper. If I lean over the sink while it is running it doesn't spit water in my face. And it disposes fast. Six large lemon rinds disappeared almost as fast as I could shove them in.I can't speak to the ease of installation or the mounting system because I paid a plumber to do the job. As for the value you get what you pay for.

Garbage leaks!!
Way too expensive for this to leak due to internal seal failure. Do Not Purchase!!

It was easy to install
I had an old Hydro Maid that lasted for over 15 years. When I could not find parts for it, I turned to this unit. It does seem to work very well. My wife loves it. It is louder then the old Hydro Maid, but then any of the electric would be, and a lot quitter then my father in-laws. I think it was worth the money. I do not expect it to last as long as the Hydro Maid, but it seems well built. It was easy to install, about 15 to 20 minutes, also fitting a switch and dish washer hose. It is heavy and would suggest a think stainless steel sink.

This will eat anything. It's pretty quiet but not *that* quiet, but that's because it's a tank.
I'm very pleased with the fit, finish, and functionality of this disposal. I was able to install it myself, and I'm not particularly handy. My only complaint is that the collar was very difficult for me to get locked onto the unit, forcing me to remove and replace once after I had it in operation. Since then, it's operating flawlessly. It's quiet, but it's not silent like a lot of the other reviews claim. I can hear it in the dining room 30 feet away. It's certainly not loud, and it truly depends upon what you put in it. The neighbors will hear this thing if you chum a bucket of chicken bones in there, but what do you expect? It is certainly a much better unit than the old Badger 5 it replaced and it really appears well built. The motor is 3 times as powerful, too. The warranty is exceptional for a consumer product and totally worth the piece of mind I get from the premium I paid.
