Should be a standard for stitching
I liked that it shows how to make lovely, well-spaced stitches that provide decoration. It also provides templates to help you get your stitched even. It explains how to use the templates. This was a revelation for me.

Wow, What a Book!!!!!
Ok, I'm not one to write reviews especially when it comes to books because it's so subjective. However, I have an extensive sewing/embroidery/crafting library. I like to read them from cover to cover when I'm in-between book books. So, I have seen my fair share of totally useless to awsome books. This book has just blown me away. It is one of, if not the best, I have ever seen. It is not only informative but very well layed out and concise.Everything from the basics for a novice to more intricate designs for experts.Stitch diagrams cover left and right handed instructions. What the stitches look like not only on the front of fabric bit the back as well.It has durable soft plastic stitch guides for every stitch. The book itself is a semi hard cover with spiral bound pages. If it's a stitch, it's in this book. A must have if you hand sew and or embroider or are looking to. It is very obvious how much time, expertise, and care that went into this book. More than worth the 25$ it sells for. I just can't say enough about this book. Everything from tools, to finishing projects are covered. Wow! It's just fantastic. Like I said I just can't say enough. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Great resource
This is a terrific resource, stitches have a written description, a picture indicating the way to complete it, as well as what the front and back look like. There are variations of different stitches, and stitches that are known by different names have them listed. I did not expect the 2 pages stitch card templates at the back. Will definitely be recommending this.

Learn a new skill!
This is a very detailed and helpful book. I personally ordered the book mainly for the templates. But I’ve found myself learning a lot from the well written stitch information in each section. Lots of good tips and timeless knowledge in this book. And the templates are extreme useful. I’m happy I invested in this book.

Book is good, condition is not new.
I purchased this as a "new" book, not used. It came a little discolored, an insert was disconnected and the corners were damaged. I like the book, it's very informative and nice to learn how they do things at Alabama Chanin. I think Amazon needs to either take better care or their new books or stop selling lightly used books as new books.

Geometry...Romance...Embroidery? Yes!!
Question: How could all these words in the title be connected?Answer: When you take your wistful dreams of designing embroidery and apply practical geometric techniques, you live your romance of creativity and self-expression..It's so hard to learn brand-new hobby techniques; it seems like if we don't already know how to do it, we'll never know. I've been stitching all my life and have derived the greatest joy when I took a class and learned to make something beautiful that I had been clueless about. One class that particularly inspired me was a linen bellpull on which I learned over 100 different hardanger, hemstitch, insertion and surface stitches. I've wanted to sit down and design my own works but...where to start? This book helps. These are the chapters:1. A New Way to Think About Sewing and Embroidery2. For the Love of Tools3. Basic Stitches4. Enhancing Stitches5. Manipulating Grids6. Patterned StitchesI own hundreds of needlework books which cover just about every technique imaginable but I just haven't sat myself down to get started. This book might break the tide. It's the practical element of the 2 pages of plastic grids in the back which addresses one of the biggest problems: size. If you want to embroider a pretty border around your shirt cuff, it's not just a question of what decorative stitch but how big the stitches should be. The first grid includes small, medium and large templates for the type of straight stitching on the book's cover. The second grid includes 7 different sizes of circles. It's all mix 'n' match. It's very clear. It's very inspiring. I also recommend these books in sort of same theme of expanding your repertoire of stitches and learning to design:Rebecca Ringquist’s Embroidery Workshops: A Bend-the-Rules PrimerStitch Sampler: The Ultimate Visual Dictionary to Over 200 Classic StitchesEmbroidery Stitches Step-by-step by Lucinda Ganderton (several editions are available on Amazon)The Embroidered Garden: Stitching through the Seasons of a Flower Garden by Kazuko AokiBead Embroidery Stitch Samples - Motifs

Embroidery book for Stretch Fabric
A great book for embroidery enthusiasts anywhere and everywhere. The instructions of the stitches are clear and concise using both illustrations and photos. Pictures of beautifully enhanced clothing add to the desire to try this method on stretch fabric myself. The plastic templates will be very handy.
