Brilliant compact chainsaw
I dont usually leave product reviews but this was that good it deserved one. It’s light, compact and is a really powerful saw.I ran it on a 9ah battery and it ran for few hours of constant work.

It's a beast.
As you would expect, absolute quality from DeWalt. I got the bare unit as I have plenty of batteries so a great price for this one. Plenty of power with a short blade, perfect for all those joinery needs. Quality chain, fits snug and doesn't spin off, plenty sharp and cuts with ease. Easy to clean and maintain if using as I am for joinery as opposed to gardening. Great safety features with a safety button, a brake to ensure it doesn't start up unexpectedly while on and the motor slows it down naturally quickly to a stop. Much easier to handle than a petrol powered item and no smoke........ Unless you're burning through the wood rather than cutting it.

Superb performance with excellent battery life
I purchased with the view to cutting down the 15ft conifer trunk that had been left in our garden after we were quoted nearly £200 to remove. The DEWALT DCM565N-XJ 18V XR Brushless 30cm Chainsaw really impressed with cuts through the trunk which varied in diameter from 5" up to 9". Each cut was easy and eventually it was cut down along with a couple more stumps. In the photo all these were cut from one battery charge - 5.0Ah XJ.I now have all the cutting down done and have an almost new chainsaw with only slightly more expense than the quote I had. To cut these down required one battery charge and about 100ml of oil. Very impressive.

Handy for light duty garden use
Useful addition if you have already invested in DeWalt 18XR kit. Good for light duties around the garden but no substitute for a proper chainsaw. Easily stalls if you try to cut too fast. Heavier than I was expecting. Useful weapon overall though.

It is a DeWalt!!
Absolutely incredible. Love my new piece of kit. You cannot go wrong with DeWalt. This is small, lightweight but packs a massive punch. After storm Arwen, in our area, loads of trees came down. I am 71. Do not have a car...but have, with permission, a large supermarket trolley! I have collected and cut enough wood to keep us going next winter. I highly recommend this chainsaw.

My "Go To" saw for all small jobs
I wanted a small chain saw for pruning and lopping and general small odd jobs which did not warrant getting out my larger petrol Husqvarna chain saw. Since I already had DeWalt batteries for other tools it made sense to by the Dewalt saw.Having used the saw for several months now, I'm very pleased by it. It's very easy to use being much lighter than my regular say. One point to note is that you MUST keep an eye on the chain oil level. My petrol saw uses approx 1 tank of oil to about 3/4 tank of petrol, so I regularly fill up the oil. With the Dewalt, being electric, after I'd filled the oil, I forgot about this and only just thought about checking the level when I was thinking how nice it was not to have to mix fuel. Check the oil regularly - good chain saw needs a well lubricated chain. The other thing that I noticed was that the instructions say empty the oil tank before storage. I did not as I couldn't see why (you don't with a regular chain saw) anyhow, few days later I found a small puddle of oil on my work bench under the saw. I now keep the saw on an old tray.Overall if you're looking for a really easy saw to use, then is a good shout. One thing I'd say is that the seller should offer a chain sharpening kit for the saw as an extra - you will need to sharpen it eventually and my Husqvarna files don't fit this chain.A good tool. Recommended.

Great little chainsaw
Having got rid of my old much used petrol chainsaw and already having several Dewalt XR18V tools this seemed like a no brainer, but was initially put off by many reviews complaining of excessive oil use and leaking. I decided I would buy it anyway as it would only be for occasional garden use. First job was cutting down 2 established trees, having up to 5 - 6 inch trunk, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the saw performed, cutting them both down and into smaller sections with ease. I was using it with a fully charged 5 AH battery and it was still showing a full 3 bar charge afterwards! It was also very nice no longer having the noisy 2 stroke petrol annoying the neighbours either! Afterwards I removed the bar side cover, bar and chain and cleaned everything up ready to put away. I was going to empty out the chain oil reservoir (as per instructions) but decided I would leave it in to see how bad the oil leaking issue was going to be. Well so far, 4 days after use, there is not a single drop of oil from it. Maybe I'm just lucky? ... or maybe it was down to the thorough cleanup afterwards ... I don't know, but I would certainly recommend this saw to anyone for light to medium use.

Love it!
I’ve wanted this chainsaw for a year but had so many other tools to buy so it got pushed down the priority list, but I knew I couldn’t get through another year in my current clients’ gardens (or my own) without it- too much tree and shrub care. Well, this saw is very easy to use, light, and I cut down three youngish or dead trees (holly, dead leylandii and a photinia) very efficiently. That was up to 6” trunks/branches but even with a fairly gentle approach it will cut through wider sections I think, although that’s not my remit- I’m a garden designer not a tree surgeon. I didn’t need to change the battery but all my power tools are dewalt so I always have spares charged anyway. I had actually used the battery in the strimmer and blower for about 15 minutes first so I didn’t even start on a full charge. I did read the reviews mentioning oil leaks so I didn’t go crazy on the oil and will be emptying the reserve out after I’ve finished using it tomorrow- might even store it upside down over a basin too, just in case.Anyway I love this saw- it’s also very quiet (can’t hear it at all with my Beats on) and I’m happy to add another dewalt tool to my stable.
