Will the hub power more than 1 device at a time?
Can i connect my macbook pro 2018 and a lg 38wn95c monitor to the hub through TB (no displayport cable adapter) and still get full resolution @144hz?
Will this work properly with apple's superdrive (cd & dvd read & write)?
would i be able to use all of the usb c and usb a ports at the same time with a macbook pro without geting the using too much power usbc disabled err

Uncompromising excellence

I upgraded a USB 3.0 hub to this excellent unit. I love that full power is available on all ports for charging and that it supports my 4K display, plus another 4K display if I get one. Now I am able to plug a single cable into my Surface Pro 7 for power, video, and peripherals, and I can leave the surface charger in my backpack. Other hubs have ports with limited functionality -- slower speeds, less power, and overall power limits that can reduce power on individual ports when loaded. This hub has full power and speed on all ports. It isn't cheap, but it's a good example of "you get what you pay for." I expect it will serve another generation or three of laptops after my current one, providing lasting value. For those needing more ports, check out Caldigit's Thunderbolt Station 4.

Problem at first but fixed with some help

This is the worst item I have bought. I have tried everything to get it to connect to my Thunderbolt enabled ASUS Zenbook but the computer does not recognize it. Trying to connect anything through this product doesn't connect. It is worthless and too late to return. After I connected with CalDigit about my problem, I realized I had set the hub up wrong. Once I corrected my mistake, it works great.

Great little unit

This is a very sleek item and works just great. Small yet powerful.

Works well for an SSD dock I made.

I needed a four port SSD dock I could use for updating my external SSD backup drives. I had been using four TRIM compatible enclosures connected to the four USB ports on the left side of my laptop (see the last photo below) but it was a pain (guess where) to set up and tear down every time I updated my backups and ate up too much precious space on top of my desk.I could find only two SSD only docks but they were too bulky and would be too slow since all four or five ports ran off a single USB 3.0 connection (up to 5.0Gbps) so I built my own dock from four cut down 2.5" TRIM compatible enclosures and connected them to the four USB Type a ports on the Element hub. I run the hub off a Thunderbolt 3 port (20Gbps) on the laptop (that provides up to 5 or 6Gbps, the max for SATA, per drive, depending on how many drives are being written to at the time. The dock/hub stay setting on top of my desk. The enormous PSU is Velcroed to the side of my desk to keep it out of sight and out of the way but still easy to access if I need to.Redneck as it sounds, it works great and doesn't look too bad. Not only does it run faster than my old setup, it takes up less space, is less hassle to use, and I still have three USB ports available on the left side of my laptop. The hub itself gets a bit warm when in use, but nowhere hot enough I can't comfortably hold my hand on it. Curiously, the PSU stays cool. I have the PSU power cord plugged into a switched outlet cube located where I can easily reach it from my desk so I can turn off the dock/hub when not in use.TRIM works through the hub. I'm using Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64-bit.Since the four USB type A ports will max out Thunderbolt three, I do not plan on using the other three ports on the other side. They are too inconvenient to get to anyway. For some odd reason, the dock/hub will not work on the Thunderbolt ports on the other two laptops I have built on the same Clevo chassis as my daily driver. I suspect there may be a driver issue there. Those laptops are just backups and for travel so I'm not losing sleep over it.

Almost perfect

The good:- works exactly as advertised. Running two 3440x1440 monitors off my MBP along with some USB accessories- also worked fine when daisy-chained- reversible design- small footprint on deskThe less good:- placement of the upstream port and power input makes it difficult to route cables neatly. This may vary depending on your setup. Would prefer either both on one side or on opposite ends. As it is it forces your downstream type-c ports on the "back", or the power coming off to the side.- Does not work at all without dedicated power. Expected since the upstream and downstream ports all provide power, but makes it not a good portable solution as the power brick is large. If a future version could take USB PD input, that would be a huge improvement.- the weight of multiple cables can pull it around/off the edges of desks, so you end up placing it to counter that.Overall if you're looking to get more high speed USBC/TB4 ports, this is the best bang for buck I've found. The bigger brother TS4 is better if you need the additional port types, or simply need higher power delivery. Or the older TS3+ as a comparable "budget" option, which is more of a trade-off in connectivity.

Frequent disconnects - Macbook Air M4, 40 inch Dell 4k monitor

Bought Calldigit element hub 4 after reading online reviews. Yes I did come across some posts stating issues I am facing but overall I felt this is a high quality product. Unfortunately this product is not working as expected. Connected this hub to my new Macbook Air M4 laptop and Dell 40 inch 4k display. I used the Tb4 cable that came with the product to connect to my laptop. Besides display the only other device connected is a logitech webcam. The set up worked fine for couple of days then while I was in the middle of a zoom session the hub just disconnected. I tried power cycling, reconnected the cable to laptop port. After few minutes same issue. It randomly keeps disconnecting.I am trying to return this defective product but Amazon just showing me links to follow trouble shooting. Not what I expected. I only bought this product a week ago.Going forward I'll only buy electronics from the reputable warehouse store that has generous return policy. If they dont sell Tb4 hub then so be it. Will settle for whatever they sell.

Just works

You get what you pay for. This thing just works. I've been trying different cables, adapters etc to try and get dual 4K monitors to work on my 2021 MacBook M1 Pro and was getting flickering etc. This device just simply works and somehow only uses one USB-C port.
