Q: Can it be cleanly removed with wood against wood. How strong will it hold

I have used this tape often to hold a plastic sheet material to a wooden template for routing the plastic. I have never seen evidence of residue from the tape on the plastic or the wood after use. The tape is really very strong for my use. I find that using only enough tape to cover approximately 10% of the surface area of the template works very well to hold the plastic for routing work. I then use a wide a wide putty knife to pry the plastic and template apart after routing.

Q: Will this tape pull the surface off of mdf if i make templates with mdf?

The XFasten Woodworking Tape would certainly work on MDF and its Silicone adhesive is designed to adhere strongly to the surface and still not leave a sticky residue nor damage the surface upon removal. I don't know why not, but I would test it on a scrap piece of the stained material before using on the actual project. They claim the tape leaves no residue and I found no evidence of one on bare wood. You won't need to use a lot of tape as it is very sticky.
