Appear to be authentic ebony
I was very skeptical that these Owden Professional 2Pcs Leather Edge Burnishers were actually made from ebony. I figured it would be some other hardwood (such as maple) that was stained black to look like ebony. After receiving and examining the burnishers, however, I am 95% confident that they are authentic ebony. Since I have worked with exotic hardwoods (including lignum vitae) and frequent stores in a large metropolitan area where exotic hardwoods are available, I take pride in owning these burnishers. They are works of art in their own right. This strongly inclines me to purchase more products from Owden,.

Really seems to be Ebony
I like these more than I expected. My "large" burnisher even has a manufacturing defect (a slight flat side visible), but that doesn't diminish its usefulness. Hard, black, smooth even surface finish.Having both the large and the small size is nice and maybe even critically necessary. It's great to be able to go around the outside of things, but even better to be able to burnish the inside of slots and holes and minor details.Great value.I believe this is made in China.

These Are Actually Good.
These are actually good. The supposed ebony wood is hard and smooth, in fact, this slicker is very finely polished, which is surprising. The wood is weighty, which is really nice, it steadies the tool as you use it, especially if you are rubbing back and forth very quickly. We've had lesser slickers made of much lighter wood fly off the edge we are burnishing and crease the edge. A major pain. But not with this burnisher.ONLY complaint is it is a little small, but they all are. This burnisher isn't smaller than any of the other burnishers you'll find out in the marketplace. They're all just a little too small for my hands. They cause cramping after a long session of burnishing. But, this burnisher is hard, heavy and smooth, definitely the best hand burnisher we've used, and we would definitely recommend its purchase, and we would purchase it again if we open another work station. Buy it.

ANOTHER VALUE PROPOSITION FROM OWDEN
Nicely turned and polished ebony or similarly hard tropical wood. For the price, these slickers are a real value. The pencil style has been very useful, especially when finishing small diameter inside radii. Starting leather work a little over a year ago, I grabbed a $10 Tandy branded slicker. I invested several hours trying to smooth that piece of open-grained Chinese crap-wood, ruined almost every project I had to edge before loading it with so much carnuba wax that I was darkening every piece of leather on which I used it. I purchased these slickers about 8 months ago and promptly round filled the Tandy POS. These have been a delight being used multiple times daily.

A Great Must-Have Tool for Leatherwork!
This is a superbly dimensioned and executed pair of leather burnishing tools.Yep, it costs more than the other Chinesium junk wannabes. This is the real deal. Excellent smooth finish on premium hardwood expertly designed dimensionally for outstanding leather edge finishing. You work hard to craft the best leather end-product possible. Those leather edges separate a craftsman from a hobbyist. If you've struggled getting that firm, glossy, slick edge on your work, this is the answer. Buy a premium tool, and get premium results! And no, nobody gave me any incentive to write this review. I paid the price for a truly superior tool, and am reaping the advantages it provides.

I like these a lot
I just started with leather and have been using the cheap one that came in a leather kit, but these are very nice and the price is great.I like having the smaller diameter one for getting inside the belt slots. They work Slick! lol
