Loki: Where Mischief Lies (Marvel Rebels & Renegades)

I loved getting Loki's backstory!
I have never read a movie or comic tie-in book in my life, at least that I can remember. I know a lot of people enjoy the recently published DC novels, but I have always been skeptical of them. Then I saw Loki on the cover of a book and that trend was destined to change. I am a massive Marvel fan and fan of Loki in particular, so this immediately shot to the top of my TBR list. This book begins with Loki on Asgard and struggling with his magic in a family that doesn't welcome it. Odin doesn't allow Loki to master his skill and instead regards his magic as a threat, but Loki sees hope in Amora, Asgard's sorceress-in-training. The two predictably get into mischief, though, resulting in Amora's banishment to Earth to die a slow, human death. Later, Loki is sent there against his will to investigate magic that has been detected and more shenanigans ensue.I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did! Loki is such a fantastic character, but I was hesitant to get more of his backstory. Mackenzi Lee did such an amazing job weaving this tale and tying it into the current MCU Loki that I fell even more in love. It was strange to see him as an insecure teenager unsure of his abilities and watching him grow into the arrogant villain we all know and love made him so much more relatable. All of the relationships in this book were so well written. The banter back and forth between Thor and Loki was exactly what you'd expect and I loved the new level it brought to their sibling rivalry. It was also interesting to get even more insight into Loki's relationship with Odin. It has always been obvious that Loki didn't feel he lived up to his father's expectations, but it was eye opening seeing that from his point of view as a younger character. There was also a bit of romance in this story and I LOVED it! I won't say anything more about it so as not to give anything away, but it was so nice to see such a beloved character get a moment of happiness. The ending of Loki: Where Mischief Lies seemed to lead straight into the MCU stories we already know, which I thought was a really nice touch. I loved how this book took a character everyone already loves and brought a new level of understanding to why he is who he is. I really can't wait to read the next instalment in this series whether it continues Loki's story or moves onto a new character. If you're a Marvel fan, I definitely recommend grabbing this one as soon as possible!

Loki: Where Mischief Lies (Book & Product Review)
The media could not be loaded. The book came in good condition. The only thing is the odd cut on the outer edge of the pages and on one page, there's a dirty spot. The outer cover was also pretty smudgy. In the video you can see the shine of the smudges.---The ending to reading a book is always bitter sweet. You pick up a book, can't put it down, and suddenly you finished reading it.This book was a fun read and I couldn't put it down for the life of me. I'm sad that it is over and I wish there were more to read. But all 408 pages have been read and all there is to do is bask in the tale.I may be biased as I have grown to love Loki more and more over these past few months, but this book was wonderful. The author gave wonderful descriptions of the settings and portrayed personality through each character in such an amazing way.The first few chapters are slow and once Loki officially starts is journey, the book takes off in a dash.I especially love that the author describes how Loki is feeling during different scenarios. Especially when it comes to the two love interests. Love interest A being a female and Love interest B being a male. The relationship developments between each pair is nice. This story is about Loki, prince of Asgard, who doesn't know his place in the Nine Realms. He doesn't know who he is or who he will be. He's conflicted and doesn't quite know the line between right and wrong. He is pushed to be hidden in Thor's shadow, never to get the chance to receive what he knows to be his birthright. When he is thrown into a new land(Midgard/Earth), unfamiliar and alone, he is to investigate mysterious murders in 19th century London. There is a time jump before Loki embarks on this adventure and while some complained it was sudden, I found it easy to understand. My only complaint is sentences can get kinda wordy. If you like Loki and mischievous magic, I definitely would give this a read.

Super Interesting & Entertaining
This was really entertaining in that it gave us a look into what shapes Loki's destiny. The whys of how he acts and what he thinks. He didn't begin as a villain, but his family helped that identity take root and cultivated it. It's really quite tragic! I find the idea of Odin's being all seeing as playing a peculiar role in Loki's faults. Had Odin not been gifted with future sight, would he have cast Loki is such an unwanted part? Loki doesn't deserve the history that Midgard's humans have depicted. I both liked and was irritated by Thor in this. I saw so many worthy qualities and a deep love for his family. But he wasn't willing to do the right thing if it defied his father, and that makes his shine a little less bright. The author did a fabulous job in keeping with what is common Loki knowledge and weaving an unputdownable tale. I adore Loki! I've always just wanted to hug the dude because honestly he really just needs someone in his corner cheering him on and encouraging him to be better! Theo was an interesting side character. He really did have such a huge heart. As this is a Loki novel and the god is known for his indulgences in both sexes, it should come to no surprise that Loki feels attraction to both genders. And though I wouldn't say that this contains heavily M/M moments, there are some glances, some hand touching and a kiss. I absolutely enjoyed this twisty and surprising look into a younger Loki. Well done to Ms. Lee!!!

Great book
It keeps you so deep into the story that you would probably not sleep. I finished on record time for me. If you like Loki, this is a really good way to understand him a little better and read an excellent story of love, manipulation, and power. Highly recommended.

Ondertussen opgenomen in ziekenhuis.
