Perhaps read them one time taking great care not to breath as you turned the pages ...
The price of these individually would be too expensive for mere mortals. What would you do with them if you had the original issues anyway? Perhaps read them one time taking great care not to breath as you turned the pages as not to cause a rip or bend thus causing the value to go down and then lock them away in storage? No sir, much better to purchase a soft cover book version with multiple back to back issues of the original stories that you don't need to be concerned too much with but will enable one to read the original story line from those great past masters. Priceless! If you are a comic book lover of the silver age then stop reading my worthless review and make a purchase for your collection. Have fun@!

In colour! An affordable price!
The Epic Collections are a great way to find all those comics from the days 'way back when'. 34 Ironman stories from Marvel's Tales of Suspense are on offer in one quality publication. I was never a big fan of the Essential series. Sure you get the stories, but they never really come alive for me in black and white. The Epic Collections are a step up in that the comics are in living colour and on good grade paper! The only improvement I would suggest? It would be sensational to see the Bullpen notes and the letters pages. It's a shame that those sorts of extras have only been seen in the omnibus books.Regardless, if you are looking for an affordable way of collecting the original Ironman stories... in colour; this is it!

Magnificent
The early years of Iron Man collected in full color. This is the complete Don Heck artist run who really defined the character. Forget the Essential line which is black and white. And forget the expensive Masterwork hardcover line which charged $50 for only10 issues. In the Epic line they are now printing Silver Age comics with a lot of issues and in full color. And at a discount on Amazon for about $25 each these are volumes you do not want to pass up.Hey Marvel keep printing these classics books.

Read in spurts and fits
When growing up, I remember reading the initial Spiderman and Fantastic Four stories in black and white shrunk-down paperbacks. I'd never read the Iron Man Collection, so when Marvel had a sale I picked it up. I had no idea that Iron Man was launched under Tales of Suspense, rather than having its own titles, and frequently shared a comic with Captain America. Both stories are pretty jingoistic America vs Russia or America vs the Nazi settings, so there is some commonality.Reading these as an adult, you can see how simple the stories were. They were also very much full of self-promotion, but that probably didn't matter for the audience. What made them stand apart was the consistent melodrama of the characters and their humanity compared to the DC heroes of the same era.It was kind of fun, and but you can only take so much of Stan Lee's writing at once, so I found myself having to read it in fits and spurts.

Definitely an "Epic" Collection
Before reading this book i was not really familiar with the character. But reading this bookbmade me see how great the character really is. The stories collected here comprise the very first stories featuring Iron Man complete with introductions of Happy Hogan, Pepper Potts, Crimson Dynamo, Hawkeye, Black Widow, The Mandarin, and the Titanium Man. The only bad part is that the book ends on a cliffhanger where the fate of one of the characters is unknown. Otherwise a great read from the Marvel Age of Comics!

Good solid comic book stories. What more do you need?
Excellent reprint volume, the first in the Epic Collection for the Golden Avenger. This reprints the first thirty or so adventures of Iron Man from the pages of Tales of Suspense, featuring artwork by Don Heck, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko - Marvel's Artistic Triumverate of the Early Sixties. The stories also introduce such villains as Blizzard (Jack Frost), the Unicorn, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Mr. Doll, and of course the Mandarin.

Do not read these early comics with the expectation that the art and writing are going to be similar or as good as recent works
I had never read the "original" Iron Man comics from the 1960s. Do not read these early comics with the expectation that the art and writing are going to be similar or as good as recent works. I made that mistake and was disappointed. The writing and plots were, in my opinion, campy; however, they did provide the origins of this beloved character from his original creator.
