Compare Apples to Apples, and These are a Mountain of Apples
OK, I came back after owning these for a year to say, they are 10 out of five stars. LOL. These remain sharp when the expensive knives need constant sharpening. The large Santoku is fantastic. Every knife gets used frequently. And when we have people over that love to cook, within days, they are grabbing for these. The fact we can wash these in the dishwasher is even more of a win. Best product I have purchased for the kitchen other than my air fryer.I would rank these with some of the best knives I have.----------------------------I always love the trolls that review products foolishly. Let's tell everyone these knives aren't as good as the ones that cost $200 a set. They should know because THEY are stupid and we are SOOO smart. LOL.Let's talk apples to apples. These knives come with protective sheaths for less than five bucks a knife. I don't see any single knife similar for this price. None. Even the cheapo knife I got at Walmart which I cannot wash in the dishwasher cost half the price of this entire set.The knives when you open them are appealing. The colors are bright and that is great for identification. The sheaths are great when you grab them out of the drawer and if junior reaches into the drawer when you are not looking. Of course, if he gets off the sheath watch out. These are razor sharp out of the box. I will see how they take stone sharpenings over time. One hint, never use a "knife sharpener" tool. They all are poorly made and damage knives. No matter what the knife, use a standard stone. As far as chipping and the like, well, I haven't had them that long. I expect a cheap knife would show some wear. But so far I have used them for every single day I have had them, and they are great, cutting through everything with ease. Even carving is easy compared to a couple of expensive carving knives I have. Shhh, don't tell the people that bought them for me.The little ones are handy to grab when you need a utility knife. A shorter paring knife would be useful, but hey, five knives for the price is something to talk about. The balance on the knives is a bit off because they are light. The handles are molded acrylic, so they don't have the weight of the full tang knives with the wood handles. Still, the feel is fine. The handles feel great in the hand and the knifes cut on contact, so you don't slip or push off an item that didn't start cutting when you expected it to.Then, being able to throw them in the dishwasher is priceless. They come out shining like new. And if the carbon steel gets a bit rusted, they may not be a showpiece, but they will still likely be the knives you turn to when you need to get the job done quick and leave the cleaning to Maytag.------------Update. I would up them to six stars if there was another. I have used these as my primary knives for a year. In and out of the dishwasher, dropped them, etc. and they look like new. Sharpening them with a standard stone works fine and they remain sharp. Bread knife is the best I have ever had. The small knives have proven to be well designed knives for cutting vegetables or other cases in which a paring knife works. The yellow knife has a slight serration that makes it perfect for tomatoes.Love the large santoku, because its size makes it balanced with the handle, and because it is sharp and ready and goes into the dishwasher. It has taken the place of knives costing over $100. I am not kidding. I use it more often. The only knife I have now that is not in this set that I use frequently is a chopping knife that works well for vegetables (carrots, potatoes, etc). The type shaped like a hatchet or meat cleaver and used at Japanese restaurants. I have seen these knives called various things, but essentially, they are thin bladed vegetable knives. If this set had one added, it would be complete.

Great value, super sharp!
So far these knives are awesome. A FAR cry from the knives I've been using. These are extremely sharp right out of the package. Mincing and chopping harder ingredients takes much less effort, which makes prep less time consuming, which is awesome.I know they say they are dishwasher safe, however, in my research of hard anodized (all my Calphalon cookware is hard anodized and when I got them I did extensive research so I wouldn't inadvertently ruin them) I've come to find that hand washing keeps the cookware and tools in better shape. It primarily has to do with the ph and alkalinity of dishwasher soap (which is much higher than regular dish soap), combined with the longer exposure to high temp water. Hard anodized IS still a "film" and the alkalinity attacks the film (which can also lead to effecting the stability of the metal itself), not to mention the potential of getting banged around by the pressure of the water as well as other utensils, dishes etc. and since they are relatively lightweight in comparison to many other knives, this seems more likely. Also, they should not be submerged in water for a long period of time. This will cause them to dull more quickly and potentially rust. The coating on these knives is basically non-stick and it doesn't take much to wash them with a sponge. It seriously only takes a few seconds. For roughly $30 this is a fabulous set of knives. I'm extremely impressed with them and am really glad I decided to try them out instead of spending $200 on a set. Also, the guards are really handy. I don't have to worry about digging around in the drawer and cutting myself or the blades getting knocked around and becoming dulled.

Very sharp and comparable to High end knife sets that we have.
A very nice set of knives. Love the colors! My husband compared other high end knives that we had, and he was really impressed with this set. I am buying for Christmas gifts.

Get these now.
These knives are fantastic. We are old school knife people-Chicago Cutlery in the 90s, Henckel and Wusthof, you know. We sharpen the knives religiously, oil the handles, we’re dorks.Last year a coworker retired and this big old Santoku was sitting by the cake. I Went clean through the cardboard cake container and was only my way to split the table :-) Super sharp AND cute. Came home and ordered a set. We love them, the boys (8 and 9) use them nicely with supervisons, it’s great.Since then, every time someone compliments the knives (we do dinners with friends and the kitchen is open season) we give them away AND replace them. Most recently we took this to scout camp and the cooks were jealous. The knives are great to use, easy to find, and the guards make them wonderful for scouting weekends. If you’re a regular human, you’ll love these. If you’re a bit of a foodie, you’ll love these. If you are incapable of loving rainbow knives I can’t help you but give these a try, be happy.

Love them!
My one tiny problem is that the tiniest, difficult to see little fold on the tip of one of the knives. IMO it doesn’t impair the use of the knife but it does snag on the towel when I dry it.The blades are sharp. I also love the colors of the blades and that each blade has a cover. Since the covers match the color of the handles it’s super easy to find the cover in the drawer.

5 year old review
I love these knives. My daughter needs knives for Christmas so I added this set to my cart. Well it popped up I bought my set in 2018. I have never had to sharpen them. They always cut great. I use my dishwasher to wash them. Going on 5 years no rust no cracks no breaks No problems. So my daughter will only get this brand for Christmas :)

Great knife set
This tomodachi line of knives from Hampton Forge is the best. They are all very sharp and all come with protective blades which make for safe storing and also easy to transport to a potluck for cake cutting, etc. This multi coloured set looks beautiful as well.
