Was once required reading for college and university students
This book is by a very moral man, Adam Smith, who clearly shows what a Free-Market Economy and Capitalism are by lifting people out of indentured Feudalism. The author majored in the field of Political Economy and is buried in Edinburgh, Scotland. Every student should read this book before raggedly and ignorantly embracing the Socialism of Karl Marx.

Tampered with authors words
I like:1) The thickness of the paperback cover and paperweight.2) The introduction with a brief description of the life of Adam Smith.3) The size of printed words.4) The quality of the printed words.I did not like:1) Changes to the original text.2) Changing the conclusion.I guess I’m kinda weird because when I buy a book to read an author’s words - I expect that I will read the author’s words. I chose this version of The Wealth of Nations because I wanted to read the author’s words.Instead, this Penguin Classics versions has been rewritten in part to say what the editor thinks I should read.Listen carefully - if you wanted a dumbed down version of this book because you are unable to read English from the 1700s to read or don’t really care about what Adam Smith wrote, this is the right book for you - and that’s okay - but that’s not what I wanted. I wanted an in contaminated version of The Wealth of Nations - but this version is very contaminated including an altered conclusion. This is a man named Skinner’s revision of the original. It’s like the King James Version of the Bible is not actually the original words of the original version. That’s what this book is like. So now I’ll probably download a free PDF copy of the original. I’ll keep this version and call it Skinner’s version of The Wealth of Nations. If you are the type of reader who wants to know the truth about what Adam Smith wrote and are willing to adapt your reading style to the English of 1776, this is not the original text. The first 96 pages are written by a totally different person during modern times. If I want to read what Andrew Skinner has to say, I will buy his books. This Penguin Classics version of The Wealth of Nations is Andrew Skinner’s version of what he thinks we ought to read. I’m am not pleased with my decision to buy this book. I will continue to seek an unaltered version of Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations. This type of tactic is one of many reasons that rich people are rich and poor people stay poor - access to knowledge. Poor people and poor minded people want the cheapest product rather than take the extra steps to find the best value for the money. There are five books that comprise The Wealth of Nations. This Penguin Classic is a revision of books 1,2,3.If you found this review helpful in any way, selecting helpful for any review helps people know that their time is appreciated. I certainly appreciate your time reading these reviews. I am hopeful that my review will help you make a great purchase decision. This may be the perfect edition for you but for me it’s a thumbs down. Next time I’ll read between the lines when I read a description.

If you care read this!
Smith will prove himself to be a sharp thinker someone who can’t be labeled or claimed by any political faction. He name-drops Hume(his close friend a lot). After reading the wealth of nations you will come to the conclusion that the invisible hand is only used twice and that it’s just fluff in this work and really isn’t the meat of his work even though it’s commonly cited by people who don’t know anything about his work both left and right. FIRST OF ALL YOU MUST READ HIS THEORY OF MORAL SENTIMENTS BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK OR YOU WILL MISINTERPRET IT. If you leave thinking Smith is a greedy scum bag you’ve read it the wrong way.

Still this book captures good economic ideas and bad economic ideas
Adam Smith is still one of the most admired or vilified economic philosophers of our time. Liberals and conservatives should stop making blanket statements about him and this book because they are both wrong. This is a fascinating book even if its full application may be controversial in a modern economy. Still this book captures good economic ideas and bad economic ideas. It should be up to people to make their own informed judgement of this influential book, rather than ignorant politicians spouting nonsense about a book they have never read.

Interesting book.
The book came with some damage on the front cover. I decided to keep it, but I showed some details.

Warning for buyers of the Kindle version
I don't need to point out that "The Wealth of Nations" (TWON) is a landmark work in economics. However, if you're looking for a Kindle version of TWON, be aware that this book (the Penguin edition on Kindle) contains ONLY Books IV and V of TWON. Penguin published Books I-III separately, and for some reason that volume is not yet available in a Kindle format. (At least, I couldn't find it as of Jan. 11, 2009.) I would therefore suggest trying another publisher until Penguin makes all of TWON available in Kindle format.

Fantastic!
Incredible Book! More relevant now than when it was written. I wish I could ask Adam Smith about how the use of fossil fuels augments the economy and the relationships within it.

Bought this book for my son in law for Christmas and he loved it. The book arrived in excellent condition and didn't have to wait too long for it. He said he had wanted the book for a while and that it was a very interesting read.
