Works great for the price
It saved me a lot of time and home owner quit a bit of money for changing the swing on an (already installed) unit. Rather than removing the whole unit and order another jamb I used this little jewel to change the direction of the swing. It worked great. The only drawback was the “ already installed and trimmed “ dealSo! I removed the adjustment tabs and made my own stop / guide and Shazam! 4 nice hinge mortises.

Great templates
If you need a hinge template these are perfect and easy to use. Always try them on a scrap piece of wood first to see how they line up. Good value for the money.

Worked, but the router bit failed and appears to be defective
These are obviously well thought out and do a decent job. The construction is solid, and they should last for more doors than I need them for. Two things prevent a 4-star review.1) the need to screw the plate into the door edge. Yes, I was fully aware that is how they work before I ordered them. But I only used the intended method for the hinge edge of the doors, where the holes wouldn't be visible and could be quickly filled. But on the latch side I used some bar clamps to hold the template, and that worked with no holes. I wish they had big tabs to facilitate this method.2) The router bit failed on the second door. It has a sealed bearing on it that guides along the template. That bearing is held onto the bit by a small metal ring with an allen set screw. On mine, the hex recess for the set screw was stripped, and the bearing slid down the shaft while I was using it, slightly damaging the door. I tried to re-tighten the set screw and found that the hex recess (not the threads) was rounded out and had never been fully tightened. I kludged it tight while completely destroying a hex key to do it. I think it will hold, but I don't trust it. Given the importance of this bit to the functioning of the Hinge Mate, I took away a star for it being poorly manufactured. I may contact the manufacturer about it, but I don't have any doors to do at the moment, so my motivation is low.

Works great
This is exactly what I was looking for. I do warranty work on new homes and have to build door jambs from raw materials and this jig works perfectly. It’s exactly what I was looking for. I was free handing the hing and strike plate mortise and this cut the time of fabrication in half.

Handy for making doors!
This is a pretty decent kit. I've used it to make three doors so far and it is easy to use and reasonably accurate--more accurate than the 5 pre-hung doors I just put up. Some of the templates fit pretty snug so you have to make sure they are seated fully so the router will get a consistent depth, but once you've used a template a couple times it goes in smoother. The tabs for aligning the jig to the center of the door are a little wobbly, so you need to watch the position while aligning and then get one of the screws in place. I may make a design modification I make to the metal frame to make the tabs a little more firm, but it isn't too hard to get it to work fine now.I was making several doors to fit in existing frames, so had to align the hinges with the existing spacing. This wasn't too difficult--just measure, mark, re-measure, and cut.Along with a 2-1/8" and a 1" hole saw for cutting the latch holes, it took me under 30 minutes working by myself to rework a door blank in my garage once I knew how to do it. The first door took longer since I was going slow to figure out the method.

Liked a Cheaper Version Better
My previous template was plastic and broke when it got bumped by the router, so I ordered this metal one. Joke’s on me because the templates on this one are also plastic. My last one had a clamp mechanism that held it in place while you route. This one has be screwed down to the door so joke is once again on me for doing my finish before routing hinges - I now have extra holes to fill.My last one had a depth guide for standard hinges. This one does not so you have to judge depth on your own (I got the hang of it but first one was too deep).Last note, my last one came with a sinker for the screw holes. This one did not.Bottom line - if you’re a first-time DIY’er, get the cheap stuff plastic one. This one has much more functionality but harder to use.

Saves time and gives a professional looking result
If you've ever had to mortise a door you know that it is nearly impossible neatly and exactly unless you use a jig. I used one of the box store adjustable plastic jigs for several years but it was hard to get it to fit tightly or sit tightly on the door and so I finally broke down and bought this. The jig itself is very sturdy and he comes with its own router bit. When I like particularly about this set is that it has the templates for the latching mortise which is usually where I'm using it. If a door sticks, and he had to take the edge down, you have to deepen the latch mortise and this is a perfect tool for it. Strike plates also although you sometimes have to remove the trim, even with the jig, to properly route them. Well worth the money when you consider the aggravation and time it requires to do it with a chisel and the perfect cut that you get with the jig. I use a small router, which I highly recommend.

es lo que esperaba!!
me parecio un poco caro cuando lo compre, pero vale la pena, haces los trabajos mas rapido y con un terminado mas preciso. Soy carpintero y creo que vale la pena la inversion.

Works well and is accurate.
Obviously, you need to have a router to do the work with the mortising kit. Once you have set the routing depth with the included bearing supported cutter, things go very well. Results are accurate and hinges fit nice and snug.

Not suitable for UK 3" hinges
Can't tell from the description, but it would seem that standard US hinges are far wider than those in the UK. I guess you could make your own spacers, but may as well make your own template if that was the case.

Not suitable for Australian doors or hinges
These templates are denoted in inches, which should be a giveaway. However I had 5 doors with 90mm hinges to hang, and these are on paper virtially the same length as a 3 1/2 inch hinge. However in reality they are more different in every dimension than you might think, and the radius of the curved edge is different too.In short, they don't fit. And don't think you can make them fit especially if you have curved edge hinges. It's puzzling why thjis product is even offered for sale in Australia shipped locally overnight.

Easy to use
Real easy to use and worked perfectly on the door I needed to build up. I just need to remember to turn off the router before trying to take it out of the template. Was concerned about the holes that are needed to hold the template to the door / frame but they were easy to fill in with some wood putty. Glad I now own this.
