No, it does not. I have used both the stick butter and the square "Irish Butter" and neither has touched the lid.

Q: Does it have butter printed on both sides?

No, it is only printed on one side.

Q: Is this dishwasher safe? Or should it be washed by hand?

Hand wash, you should not put wood in the dishwasher and i'm not sure if the metal/enamel base is safe in there. Seems like it would chip easy
