for our son, it was magic
Here's are sleep story thus far.Our son was good at many things but sleep was not one of them. In his first few months he was often up all night. No, I do not mean multiple wakings, I mean basically one or two wake-ups and then he couldn't get him back to sleep as hard as we tried. Some night he slept only 1.5 hours total. We tried all sorts of things, some things worked a little. Swaddling sort of seemed to work a little maybe but it was hard to tell because even as a newborn he would break out of his velcro swaddles. Then our postpartum doula introduced us to the Miracle Blanket swaddle. That was harder to break out of and our son liked it better. Around 3 or 4 months he started sleeping in 1-2 hours stretches because of the swaddle which was a huge improvement. But still, being up every 1-2 hours isn't great in the whole scheme of things, right? Just before our son turned 6 months we started feeding him solid food and he started sleeping way better and things were looking up, food + swaddle was a winning combination but we had a problem: SWADDLE ADDICTION. He could not sleep AT ALL without the swaddle. Why was this a problem? Several reasons. First, I was very scared he's roll on his belly while swaddled and get stuck. Because of my fear of this we got a video monitor, but it still sort of gave me anxiety every night (even though he never actually did this). Also, he sort of had a love/hate relationship with the swaddle. He needed it to fall asleep but sometimes I felt like it was interfering with his ability to resettle himself when he woke. Also, since our son has eczema and you can't itch yourself when you are swaddled it seemed uncomfortable at times. Imagine how maddening that would be, to have an itch and be wrapped up! And no, there was no way to unswaddle him after he fell asleep without waking him. We tried one arm out many times as a transition, but no luck, we were in a bind.Until we met the Magic Sleep Suit. It works like a charm. Our son loved it from the start. He feels cozy but isn't wrapped up so he can re-position himself to resettle or scratch an itch. At 8.5 months sleeps totally through the night (9pm - 7:15am) on maybe 50% of nights! We put him in naked with just a diaper and overheating has not been a problem. It's AMAZING. I can relax at night knowing he's safe and he won't be stuck if he rolls. I don't feel horrible that he might have an itch he can't get at. He's so happy to get in it every night, he does this cute little cozy wiggle as we zip him up. My husband and I look at each other all the time and say, "wow, I can't believe we made it past the swaddle!" I had no idea how we were going to get him past the swaddle. The sleep suit is very nicely designed. With 2 zippers it's easy in and easy out. Much easier than many swaddles.

works...at least for our kid
UPDATE (3/02/13):we finally retired the sleepsuit last week. our son is now 6 mos. old, is 19 lbs. and 28 inches long. he still fits fine in the suit (though the sleeves are a tad short), but we decided to move him out of the suit because he's very active and we found him on his stomach a few times already. so yes, it is possible to roll over in the suit...and we just thought it was time for him to learn how to sleep without it. amazingly, our son sleeps pretty well without it. we have him in a full body jumper and a sleepsack...what's amazing is how much he loves to move around in his crib...he travels a lot...and he loves sleeping on his stomach, which is fine at this age. the sleepsuit served us well, though, and it was the perfect thing for him from 3-6 mos...hope it works for your kid.UPDATE (1/22/13):our son still sleeps in the suit and still does well in it. he sleeps anywhere from 6-9 hours through the night...and he seems to like getting into his suit. at 4 months he started rolling over...and the suit prevented him from rolling over while sleeping, but last week we found him on his side and then on his stomach while wearing the suit (at 4.5 months). so it prevents him from rolling easily, but not completely. we've since put a couple of pillows on either side of his legs and this has prevented him from rolling...he is now 5 months old, about 18 lbs., and about 27 inches tall. he fits the suit perfectly...we've washed the suit a few times, mostly when he's had a leaky diaper overnight. just turn it inside out, wash regular, and dry. no big deal. hope this helps.ORIGINAL:some tidbits:- my son is 3-1/2 months- weighs about 15.5 lbs.- is very active; always moving his legs and arms and rarely sits or lies still- i don't think he'll fit into the 3-6 mos. when he's 6 mos...but it's a bit loose on him right now.- we live in hawaii and it's not too hot to put him in it with just a diaper. he never seems sweaty or over-heated. he'd wake up if he were. swaddling actually made him really hot.okay. my son was outgrowing his swaddle me and we were thinking about what we should do next. he still startles quite often and moves around a lot when on his back in the crib. the sleepsuit was a desperate purchase by desperate parents. short story - it works. at least for my son. it's as good as swaddling in terms of giving him the comfort he needs to sleep soundly. but we think it's better than swaddling because his arms are free. in the swaddle, my son would spend a lot of time trying to get out...we could hear and see him grunting and wriggling to try and free his arms. he'd exert a lot of energy trying to get his arms free...and often we'd find the swaddle around his neck over his face. not too safe.with the sleepsuit he sleeps with his arms spread out...and he can still put his hand to his mouth when he needs to soothe himself...and he can hold his hands together as another soothing mechanism. we are VERY surprised how well he sleeps...we decided to use the switch to the sleepsuit as a good time to also let him soothe himself to sleep...up until a couple weeks ago we'd been nursing him to sleep. that's the only way we'd get him to sleep. and if he woke in the middle of the night, we'd have to feed him again. on the FIRST night we put him in the suit and let him soothe himself to sleep, he cried for 45 minutes before finally going down. but he slept for 8 hours! previously, the longest stretch he'd done was 6. and we've gotten 8 hour stretches every night since...and we hope to get even longer ones soon (yes, we're greedy). it's only been a few days, and he still cries for a few minutes before going to sleep...we hope the crying bit ends soon, but we're thrilled that he can put himself to sleep. maybe we're more thrilled that we can get some decent sleep, too. we also put him in the suit for naps.so, this sleepsuit works for us. i totally understand that it may not be for every kid...but why not give it a go? if it doesn't work the first week, return it. a good night's sleep for you and your kid is worth the try, right?

Absolutely must have!!!
This product is incredible. Amazing. Life changing lol. I am being dramatic because I am that obsessed with this sleep suit. My daughter was OBSESSED with being swaddled. I was so nervous to transition her to sleeping without being swaddled. She despised the transitional swaddle products where the arms are out but slightly confined by the ears. I was recommended to try this and I am so glad I did. The very first moment she put it on she was instantly frozen with relaxation haha! No lie. She sleeps amazing every night in this. Super warm and soft. The inside liner is so so soft I wish I had an adult sized one lol. I’m not a paid to leave reviews person although I wish I was I just want yall to know this is so so worth it. Super stress relieving to know she is in a safe sleep position AND super relaxed with literally ZERO stress transitioning from the swaddle. I can’t thank yall enough for this design.

Omg WE LOVE IT!
The best advice that my husband and I had ever been given in the first couple months of our child’s life was about the magic Merlin! Our son like many other babies, had the moro reflex! He couldn’t sleep without being swaddled, but absolutely hated being swaddled! Also, it didn’t matter how much Velcro was on the swaddle he could escape all of them! We had no idea what to do to get him to sleep better! Somebody recommended the magic Merlin to us and it was a godsend! You give them the ability to move just a little bit, but not enough to wake themselves up! Our son began sleeping through the night, only waking up one time to breast-feed and occasionally sleeping completely through the night! It’s warm, but not too much to overheat your baby! They are big and fluffy but true to size! Zipper quality is great and it is breathable, but not super stretch! I highly recommend!
