So so so good!!
This was absolutely epic!I had high expectations going into Kaiju #8 and it honestly did not disappoint! Kafka is a very compelling hero that you can't help but cheer for and laugh with (which is probably why there was one chapter where I laughed so hard I cried LOL). The opening chapter makes him instant relatable and really shows how great of a guy he is.However, even though I loved Kafka, OH MY GOODNESS, Ichikawa is AMAZING! Granted, him and Kafka really balance one another, but their banter is GOLD! I absolutely love it and know that probably why I like Ichikawa so much is because you honestly can't have one guy without the other. They are two opposites of one coin, but share a common goal in protecting people and wanting to join the Japanese Defense Forces. They both really awesome, but I feel like their roles are switched because Ichikawa is the one always getting on Kafka instead of vice verse.I really really liked the gentle way the mangaka wove in different backstories because it felt so natural and part of the story that it really was a hook, line, and sinker. Like it only amped up the storytelling and liked how we had these flashbacks at just the right moment to show why a character was compelled to do what they did. I was surprised by one backstory for a character we meet later on because my heart really went out to her.I would definitely would love to know what happens next! Though sometimes their felt a little more "ugh, that was gross" then I personally like (because when Kafka defeated that one kaiju I realized that was NOT rain 🤢) and still think the one bath scene was unneeded even if nothing was shown. I still really enjoyed this story though! That ending was such a cliffhanger and SO much is out in the open now that I'm concerned for Kafka AND Ichikawa!Totally recommend Kaiju #8 to those who love kaiju, "older heroes" (Kafka is 32 and he's called old man by the "young people" LOL), and a really engaging story that will leave you gripping your book/Kindle as that was definitely me that last quarter of the book!EAGERLY looking forward to more in this series!

Read out of curiosity, Going on the List
As someone who grew up reading only the shonen variety of manga like Naruto and Bleach, I will admit to getting burned out on them. But this. This combines everything I loved about those in my childhood and the seriousness I've come to crave in adulthood. My initial thoughts of the series were actually inaccurate considering the age of the characters and how the organization they work for operates but I gotta say, it's fantastic. There isn't much said in the first volume by exposition -most we learn is from them explaining how and why they are doing things. Which is a very nice touch. The tone of the story also blends well with the art style. Not being too clean for comedy but not being overly messy and lessening the seriousness of the story it's telling. This is definitely going on the List of Too Many Options and I will be getting the next volumes soon.
