No, the handles are fixed, they are not telescopic like some which always seem to extend on their own, the Fiskars 9138 is a great pruning unit.

Where can I buy the replacement blades?

I want to let everyone know that Fiskars guarantee for LIFE all of their blades! I had a lopper blade break on me once (part of a bad batch that had wrong heat-treatment) and i called them and they immediately mailed me a new blade free of charge. EXCELLENT customer service and great company!
