Why does it say 40 pound Dumbell set when the total weights add up to 30 pounds?

I just weighed the two handles and they weigh exactly 5.4 Lbs. That leaves us with 4.6 Lbs to account for. That's all I got.Actually, I just weighed the full set in the box and it totals 41.8 Lbs. And the handles with the collars total exactly 7 Lbs. Again... It doesn't answer the question fully, but it gives you something to think about while you lift those 40 Lbs. Or 41.8... Or 37.. Or whatever.

Yes it will. I own these dumbbells and added 1" plates from the store with zero problems. Sorry this is late, but hopefully it helps anyone else with the same question.

Are these 1 inch bars?

The 52.5 lb dumbbell is not a 1 inch diameter. It is about 1.15 inches when measured with my calipers. The weights will fit a standard 1" bar, but standard 1" weights will not fit the included bar without modification.
