doesn't use a lot of electricity and low setting perfect for sleepng
I really like this heater. I use it for personal more than room heating. I keep it on my nightstand and use it while sleeping, it doesn't get superhot. The low setting is perfect for sleeping, like a warm breeze. The high is good for chills, but you'll start sweating after a while. It isn't quite but not real noisy.

Great little heater
I purchased two of these for my office. They are not meant for whole room heating, they are perfect for a little cozy bit of warmth. The fan is not obnoxious, but not silent. I am happy with them.

Very effective at its intended purpose.
This was my first foray into anything produced by Vornado and my first impression after the first couple hours of use was no less than pleasing.Firstly it’s a personal heater, let’s clear that up. If you’re looking for a unit with more heating power, consider Vornado’s complete line or “whole room heaters” using vortex or V-Flow technology. The units intended purpose is to heat the air around you and keep you comfortable in say like an office cubicle or general workspace where you would be mostly stationary. With Vornado being considered a more premium brand this is a pretty good entry level product to familiarize yourself with their vortex air circulation. The unit did a great job at fighting the chill that usually surrounds me when I’m at work in my desk and I was pleasantly surprised with how cozy and comfortable I felt during the first couple hours of use.Let’s talk noise.....you can definitely hear it running but I’m my opinion it’s a fairly pleasant sound and there is no speed control, just one. It definitely makes some white noise. Some may find this unit fairly noisy compared to Vornado’s larger more powerful line of heaters. Place the heat selector in the middle position and it works as a fan. Air flow is good and gentle and provides a soft yet pleasant current of air. I was okay with less airflow because my desk fan was just too strong at times.Let’s talk power...you get three options: Fan only, low heat, and high heat. Low draws 375 watts and high draws 750 watts. (750 is a low setting on the more premium models where 1500 watts is the max output.) 375 just feels a little warm which I tried for a few minutes and switched to the 750 option which I love better. Not too hot and not too cool it was just perfect. It’s advertised as cool to the touch which I didn’t think so it doesn’t get hot on the sides but it does get considerably warm so keep it unobstructed on all ends. Heat output is perfect and I would highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to keep a small space a little more cozy.Bottom line since it uses the vortex technology Vornado is famous for it does a great job circulating the heat around you and not just at you. Using it as a standard one speed fan alone was also pleasant. If you want a great example at what this company is then start with their entry level product line. One last thing. Out of the box with it has that new “vinyl” like smell and the power cord is very stiff but very well constructed. I’m not sure how long it will take to rid itself of the new vinyl like smell when I was running but I’m sensitive to certain odors and it gave me a little bit of a headache and nauseous feeling in my stomach for the first couple hours while it ran. The initial burning smell you get from first start up only lasts a couple minutes. Maybe run it in an open area for the first time and see if that help it bake off the odor. Some might say vinyl smell or some might say it has a Sharpie permanent marker like smell. Just an FYI.

Can’t give a review of how it works, because mine didnt
I give it 3 stars because in its field it is priced well for having both fan only and heating option (in its “weight” range, aka compared to other sizes/prices of similar products) and it seems like from other peoples reviews it works well… when it worksI plugged it in, it started to warm up and was blowing lukewarm heat(not a problem since it was warming up) but after about 20-30 seconds, it just stopped blowing. I’m pretty sure the heating element also shut off. The light was still on, but no matter how I flipped the switches, tried other outlets, etc, it just remained a paper weight with a red light, so I returned it for a refund.TLDR: mine broke within 30 seconds and I returned it- from other reviews it seems good when it works, but I wouldn’t know

Had a short when I received it. Why didn't they check for that?
When I read the reviews, I figured everyone was being too sensitive about the noise level. I was wrong. The last two Vornados I owned were so quite that I couldn't really hear them. This newer model is SO loud, and there is no increase in the heat as a result: all sound, no fury. Also, there is no way to grip these; no little ledge to hold on to move them, as in the previous models, so awkward to move around. The most important thing is that this was shipped to me with a short included. It had a short circuit when I received it. I would never do business with this vendor again. Also? I used to swear by Vornado. This is the third Vornado that quit working. Going to try Lasko. I've had good luck with them in the past. Good Luck.

Best space heater
If you’re looking for a small but powerful heater, this thing is great. This is the second one I’ve bought, my previous one lasted about 5-6 years of continuous use.

Stopped working after two months of occasional use
I don’t recommend. I had barely used it a few times before it suddenly clicked off one day while it was running, and it never worked again.

Works well
In a large room with the heater on a table about 10 ft away and keeps me warm.

Nice little heater.
It’s a good personal heater based on a few hours of usage. I used it to warm up a bathroom. A little pricey, but it’s worth it to know it’s from Vornado.

Does the job, great continous use performance, lacking some helpful features.
A little expensive for the lack of features, but heats an acceptable area, so overall it is a good deal. I would like to see some kind of temperature control beyond a high or low setting, or at least a current temperature readout at the price. Fan is slightly loud, but tolerable.

A small miracle
I’ve used the Vornado VH5 Personal Heater nearly every night for the past year expressly so I could share my informed insights with anyone interested in buying one for themselves. I highly recommend it, with the knowledge that modern electrical appliances made far from these shores sometimes don’t always work as intended (Vornado’s three-year warranty can help you there). I lucked out and got a good one that worked properly, right out of the box. It’s billed as a “personal heater,” but the VH5 can quite ably warm up a small room. For example: during several -20 Celsius/-4 Fahrenheit evenings last winter, my VH5’s High setting (750W) regularly heated my 10 ft X 12 ft (122 sq ft) bedroom up to approximately 19 Celsius/66.2 Fahrenheit within 15-20 minutes from switch-on (from a starting temperature of 15 Celsius/59 Fahrenheit). Running it purely on the Low setting (375 W) on such beastly nights meant a slower warm-up, but retained a comfortable sleeping temperature of around 17-18 Celsius/64 Fahrenheit while the heater ran all through the night (saving me money on electricity, all the while).Warm air tends to expand easily, which explains why this small, gentle, fan-powered heater can work such miracles from the top of my dresser, four feet away from the foot of my bed. Sadly, the Fan-Only mode is rather less successful - you’ll need to place the VH5 within three feet of you in order to feel a milder version of Vornado’s famous vortex “air beam” on a hot night. Some tips:1) Give the heater time and space to work its magic. Heating a small room or workspace with this thing is a gradual, cumulative effect. Just switch it on, place it where the airflow can reach the room — ideally, in a corner — and wait. Oh, and keep the back and the front of the unit clear so that air can flow freely.2) Keep it clean. This wee beastie moves a mountain of air. That also means dust and hair can accumulate, clog, and eventually break your heater or cause a fire hazard. Wipe the case off and vacuum the vents with a brush nozzle at least once every couple of weeks. Blast its innards with compressed air once a month. If you’re really serious, you can use a small watercolour paint brush to dust the fan blades through the vents once or twice a year.3) Be prepared for some mild “white noise.” The VH5 is using what amounts to a mini jet engine to heat your space. The VH5 takes up less room than older models like the VH202, but lacks the noise-dampening built into its casing. Unless you need absolute silence, this shouldn’t be a problem. One caveat: this thing could really use a carry handle to move it from place to place.

Not very effective
I wouldn't buy this again. It's simply not very effective. The safety features seem to work ok, If you bump it, it shuts itself off, but its heat output is quite low.I bought it to warm my feet in my cold basement, but unless I position it very close to my feet under my desk its not useful and if I position it close to me it is likely to get bumped and shut off. It has a three-position fan speed, but its really only one speed. There is no difference between the fan speeds. Perhaps this one is broken or faulty somehow but I am extremely disappointed.

Very disappointed
This unit is missing a thermostat to regulate the temperature. It does not provide much heat on either of the two settings
