Feminism: A Very Short Introduction Reprint Edition

This book would be good for a college course. The material is very historical, providing some of the religious and ideological background for today's feminism, which is discussed in the later chapters. Again, this book is geared towards college or professional studies, or as a reference book. I would say that if one were to promote the ideals of feminism more effectively, one has to turn to speeches and presentations, like Emma Watson's HeForShe speech at the UN ("Emma Watson at the HeForShe Campaign 2014 - Official UN Video", on YouTube). In just fifteen minutes or less, a viewer can learn and be inspired by many ideas that Ms. Watson clearly spent months or years researching and debating with people. As I think about the topic more, I've been starting to believe that the first half of the 21st century could see the large and lasting progress for feminism, as the ideals have reached tens of millions of women in the developing world through internet and TV, unlike in former generations, and movements are taking hold this year in Asia.

This book included great highlights, quotes and exerts of historical feminism largely from a British point of view. I enjoyed reading about and being introduced to many characters that have fought for equaility over the centuries. This is a very quick read and I would recommend it to anyone looking to jump into the subject of feminism realizing that it is from an English perspective so not quite as diverse as one might hope for a subject relating to equality.I also enjoyed even reading about some male characters that fought for women's rights like John Stuart Mill. I really enjoyed his quote "But was there ever any domination which did not appear natural to those who possessed it?"Overall it was a great book, not thorough, but you can't expect that from a intro book.

I was responsible for providing my granddaughter's textbooks and I shopped around online for books (new or in good used condition) at reasonable prices. Campus bookstores are there to make money and no bargains are to be found there, so I shopped online. This was the best deal I could find for this textbook.

Concise historical overview of the feminism, but without any theoretical analysis. No examples from art or philosophy. Focuses mostly on British and American women.

A quick, precise, and informative introduction to feminism through the second wave. As someone who knew very little of the history this was a great place to start.

Hits the highlights of feminist authors from UK/US, but the historical focus is heavily British. This is ok, but I didn't pay much attention to the fact it was published by Oxford, so I was surprised. (There is one shortish chapter on world feminist movements at the end.) US readers should supplement this.
