Superior second season! The horrors of a hard-core rabid right-wing regime based on an incredibly hateful interpretation of an unforgiving and cruel christian agenda reducing America to color-coded clothing for women to show their debased and narrowly defined functions in life.This “society” formally known as the USA has renamed itself as “Gilead” was politically organized and murdered the Congress and President and then overthrew the US government! Gilead citizens want to reclaim devastated areas (nuclear war zones) using some of their “prisoners” (anyone out of vogue) without protection from radiation after a war. There are penal colonies for all that are healthy, but do not conform or have “transgressed” their vicious values. Horrible hateful haughty abuses and wicked murders are systematically committed against all progressive advanced society: Scientists, teachers, journalists, LGBTQ and EVERYBODY ELSE who has not conformed (retroactive retaliation) or who is deemed unworthy of their “high standards.”Fertile women are prized above all because the majority of the Gilead population were rendered infertile due to pollution and chemicals used by our society today. Gilead “believers” convince themselves that current day behavior (fast foods, drinking liquor, drug use, non-marital sex, gays and more) does not respect their radical religious views, thereby caused the drastic decline of fertility as punishment from their deity. They assume this gives them the right to kidnap and force fertile women to conceive babies for anybody who belongs to the society of Gilead and wants a baby because this is considered “divine scripture.”ALL WOMEN ARE FORBIDDEN to read, teach or have any professions except homemakers and maybe baby factories if they are fertile... Many are sterile which is where the “handmaidens” make sense . Handmaidens fulfill the baby-making role of the infertile wife. The wife helps the husband to impregnate the handmaiden by holding the handmaiden down while the husband proceeds to rape her regularly until she is pregnant. That is the primary function of a handmaiden.It is a fairly perpetual martial law society dedicated to rebuilding their damaged nation while they LIE about the cruel criminal culture of Gilead to other countries in order to receive international courtesy, respectability and reestablish trade…Elisabeth Moss is the lead and is superb in her role as she was in “Mad Men“ where she was a woman “trying to break thru the ceiling” in the Madison Avenue advertising era of the 1960s. An excellent series depicting the 1960s genuinely as I remember them. Another series to check out!I must say everybody in this series is excellent in their portrayals of their characters… kudos to Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Joseph Feinnes, Samira Wiley, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, et al. Excellent, engaging, intelligent entertainment that will keep you on your toes!My friends and I are waiting eagerly for series 3 to come out on DVD! Enjoy enjoy!

Great show

I never like Christianity displayed as they do in this movie and many others in TV land. I see Human Trafficking, rape, Fear, Control, brain washing, mk Ultra and pretty much the devaluation of human life.In a sense looks like satan's end time world for sure.This movie is life here on earth without true Holy Spirit and a "true" born again transformation of our Lord Jesus Christ.Where sin abounds God's grace abounds more. No pit too deep that Jesus isn't deeper still. This movie makes me say.... Come Quickly Lord Jesus and bring PEACE to Jerusalem.

Una serie terrible y absolutamente perturbadora, un serio aviso sobre el peligro del fanatismo y el totalitarismo,no se puede olvidar que la novela está escrita hace más de treinta años y las premoniciones de la autora sobre un futuro sombrio son cada dia que pasa más exactas.En cuanto a la calidad de la serie en si misma es indiscutible , las interpretaciones de los actores son soberbias, un diseño de producción que te pone el corazón en un puño y un guion adaptado de la novela fantastico que utiliza el flashback para ir desgranando poco a poco el origen de los hechos que nos están contando y hace que la imaginación del espectador trabaje activamente. Una serie que pasará a la Historia.

Greatly admire Margaret Atwood's writing. Someone once told me that dystopic sci-phi was meant as a warning that if our environment goes on unchanged then this, the dystopic tale, could be our future. Ms Atwood puts us squarely in the middle of our very possible folly. Fortunately, the video series follows very closely to the intent and flavor of Ms Atwood's novel and plays fair to the novel inside of the limitations of film.

The first season was based on the entire book. This season not only answers some important questions but also gives some background on other characters. Very interesting and extremely well acted. It contains 13 episodes on 4 discs with two short extras.

Wow!! I am looking forward to season 3 , as this season promises repercussions and REVENGE by the women.Elizabeth Moss is a terrific actress and can say so much w/ her facial expressions w/o uttering a word.Once I get past the first few episodes , that I found difficult to watch, I could not stop watching this intriguing tale.This season surpasses the intrigue of the first season, promising so much for season 3.A MUST watch!

As much as I enjoyed the first season, I think I liked the second even more. The second season takes you so much farther into the personal lives of the main characters and definitely keeps you rooting for Jane. I don't want to give anything away so I will only say that it is well worth your time.
