Spode tier cake plates were fine but the two tier accessories that come with the product are defective. The bottom flat head had no threads so it was impossible to hold the first plate in place. This is the second product that I purchased from Spode or Portmerion that the parts were defective. I will know have to find a 2tier cake plate hardware.

Bought this as a holiday gift. It had potential to be a nice little server, but since it arrived damaged and thus unusable, I can’t give the product more than one star.

Although it says "Made in England" on the bottom, this is a poor quality, defective Spode "seconds" item being dishonestly advertised as first quality Spode. It has multiple rough holes in the glaze (stilt marks) with protruding bits of irregular china on the bottom. Both plates in the tiered cake stand I ordered have this defect (as well as the saucers and luncheon plates I ordered to go with it). You can feel it when you pick up the plates, and the instinct is to turn them over to check if they're clean because it feels like there is dried food crusted on the bottom. The worst cases have bits of unglazed ceramic protruding so sharply that it feels like you could scratch yourself while handling them. The pattern is muddy and blurred compared proper-quality Spode pieces. Spode sells these rejects off cheap, and this seller is marking them as standard-quality Spode and charging higher prices. I regret falling for this -- don't make the same mistake I did! Don't fall for this cheap, defective rip-off! If you are adding pieces to your Blue Italian collection, or even if you just care about receiving a high-quality product as advertised, you will be sorely disappointed by this scam.
