Easy to use & cooks perfect rice
Pretty simple and makes perfectly chewy Japanese rice. I wanted to try this to get away from using an electric rice cooker because of the non-stick material being toxic. Using a clay pot with glass lid gives me peace of mind.

Broken on delivery
Seems that the company does not know how to pack clay items, since it was broken on delivery. When opening the Amazon packing box, a flimsy one, there was no cushioning material. Upon opening the product box, it also did not contain any cushioning material. This product, at least as delivered from the Hario factory, does not seem suitable for international shipping.

This donabe rice pot cooks rice better than electric or induction cookers! And it's faster, too!
Donabe rice pots produces superior rice, better than microcomputer or induction cookers. It is a lot faster too! The cooked rice has a glossy look and the texture is better than other cookers. The only way to cook better rice is to use a double-lid donabe clay pot which can be triple the price of this pot.The advantages is that you can have rice ready in 14 minutes (but you still have to let the rice steam for 15 minutes after turning off the heat.) Like other cookers, you still need to presoak the rice for 30 minutes before cooking. Please note that Japanese rice is measured in "gล" which is equivalent to 0.75 American cups. This cooker can cook three gล of rice, or 2.25 American cups of rice. The amount of water would be the same amount as the rice. You can increase the water by about 5-10% to make it softer. The disadvantages are:1. The pot is not non-stick2. You must cook on a gas stoveThe advantages are:1. It cooks faster2. The glass lid lets you see the rice as it cooksWhile the instructions state to cook under high heat, this creates a mess on t he stove when the rice boils over. Reduce the heat to medium to eliminate this mess. It does not affect the end result.I have attached the instructions on how to use the pot. Unlike clay pots, this ceramic pot does not have to be pre-seasoned.
