The Best Quality Spearfishing Pole on The Market My Money Can Bay
High quality aluminium shaft comprised of three parts! Exactly made screw- on connectors. Greatly priced item of highest possible quality! I am retired person with European military diving experience . Utilizing mostly Drager rebreathing oxygen equipment. I have forty eight years of free diving and spear fishing experience. Beginning as 10 years old boy. Starting fishing with home made, umbrella spike made fishing bow. Made by my father. My advise to protect your spearfishing pol from eventual damages is similar to spear fishing shooting technique. Never point the shaft toward the rocky bottom. Always position yourself parallel with bottom, and parallel with rock formation then shoot. Mini caves or bottom rocky tunnels: go down in the middle of the opening and position yourself to shoot. Shoot only if fish stays in the open clear from rocky formations or if fish stays in area within rocky formation , and if fish is large enough to absorb shaft`s impact energy first. Or otherwise you are going to end your fishing day shortly with broken tip including perhaps spare ones. Or much worst you can damage shaft! When I was teenager with little bit of money. I have used one spear gun shaft tip for almost two years utilizing meticulously above describes shooting procedure. In addition to checking the tip occasionally sharpening it, and adjusting barbs. Conclusion: I highly recommend MAKO Spearfishing Traveler Spear Pole for it`s quality, precision made screw -on connectors, for choosing to build this pol from quality no flexing aluminium tubs and for MAKO remarkable price!!

Passable
A decent starter pole, you can tell that it is not the greatest construction. The tip is hastily cut and ground, the threads are passable but not my much. This would be a perfect starter pole but it seems that mako has installed custom threads (the ones that are barely acceptable) to make it so you cannot fit other commercial or after market tips. They sell an adapter so that you can use only their tips as well essentially locking this spear and all of your mods to it into the mako brand. This may be common practice in some business areas but not in companies that I like to give money to, it just seems scummy to me.

This was a great buy. Iv cought many fish with this pole
This was a great buy. Iv cought many fish with this pole. It’s still my go to pole Even though I have a speargun. I recommend for bigginer or advanced. Bottom line You will be able to reload in a few seconds then take your second and third shot compared to much longer reload time on a speargun. you will be able to reload in a few seconds and take your second and third shots! compared to much longer reload time on speargun.Your tip will bend in time as you hit Rocks. For most part you can straighten them with a small plier. Replacement tip is about $15 from manufacturer direct.Learn your craft first with this pole spear without breaking the bank!

Difficult to get different tips for this spear
This spear is solid and durable. Went fishing with it the day after I received it. The Paralyzing tip it comes with is fine for smaller fish but you really need a flopper tip for bigger ones. This is why I can’t give it a 5star review. Unfortunately mako uses a completely different style thread size and config than most spears. Not only do local dive shops not carry a replacement but Amazon doesn’t either. And apparently even Makos website is out of stock! If Yiu want a more universal spear that will accept most tips don’t buy this one.

Hard to grasp even with textured gloves
Going fishing I thought this would be easier than my spear gone. I was wrong. I could not get a firm grip on the shaft no matter how hard I tried to grip it so could not get full power. It’s possible I could have gotten a better grip without the glove but the water was too cold. Now for the spear tip/head, unlike a single spear tip with a flapper, this five prong head had zero penetration and the fish was able hit wiggled off and swam away. This might have been a better product if the head was better but overall I was not impressed. One of the features I liked was its collapsibility but the threads took tool long to tighten and they would get lose over time. I think a twist lock system would work better and be quicker.

very basic & not compatible with most spear tips
It's OK for the money - especially if want something that breaks down for travel. 2 big gripes - the spear tip is some odd 13.4mm coarse thread (maybe not metric?) - so if you need a spare when you are traveling you are out of luck. Most spear tips are 6 or 8mm. The other is the basic design. Fatter aluminum designs, like this one have a tapered shaft, like a pool cue. This one is the same thickness all the way to the tip - which may make it less accurate (but not tested yet). If all you want is a disposable polespear for one trip - then OK buy it. Otherwise, I would spend more money on a better brand.

fit and finish is excellent and built to handle some hard use
I can hardly contain my excitement about this spear, the quality is superb, fit and finish is excellent and built to handle some hard use, i cannot wait to get in the water with it. The ability to break this spear down for ease of transport is exactly what i needed to pack it into remote areas. Awesome product!!! The spear arrived quickly and was packaged very well. Worth every penny!!! And i am so glad i did not buy a different brand.
