Works great
Cuts the rope and burns the ends all in one cut. Worth it if you end up cutting a lot of thicker ropes. Sure you can use a knife and a lighter. But this does it so much quicker and neater compared to using a knife and lighter.

Works well!
This was the cheapest hot knife I saw on Amazon. However, this works very well. I have used it for cutting paracord to make new tent and tarp lines for camping shelters. This produces factory like cuts in my lines. The advantage of that is it makes it easy for me to fit my lines through tensioners or other tight spaces. This would also work great on firefighting webbing.

Totally sufficient tool for hot-cutting rope
For the money, (under 30), this is a totally sufficient tool for hot-cutting and sealing rope. There are some funny misprints on the box...but the tool works and heats (and reheats) very fast. Not the perfect blade shape, but as good as others that cost more.To use this easily, I just store a small, scrap porcelain tile with it so I have a convenient cutting surface.Basically, once you use this, you will want to go around and "fix" your old rope that you cand cut with scissors or a knife and then sealed with a lighter. With this, you can make a clean, compact cut and smooth off any burrs.

Done in 15 seconds!
I was skeptical about how well this would work. But my skepticism was quickly replaced by awe when I saw how well the SeaSense Rope Cutting Gun works! It’s a soldering gun (mine actually has a soldering gun label on it) with a blade to cut ropes. Plug it in, hold the trigger down, and in about 15 seconds you are ready to start cutting and securing nylon ropes. I have mostly used it with 4mm paracord, but I’ve found that it works well with bigger sizes, too. The rope ends made by this gun are indistinguishable from the ends made in the factory. In real-world use this rope cutting gun greatly exceeded my expectations—I highly recommend it!

Fast
I use it both for cutting polyester straps and for rope. It heats up fast, which is very helpful because I only know the sizes I want a few at a time, so I only make a few cuts at a time.

Worked perfectly for me out of the box
This worked perfectly for me out of the box. It was quick to set up (two screws to attach the blade) and seems otherwise fool-proof. I've only used it for cutting a small pull-start line and a couple of other pieces of rope to experiment with, but the result is much nicer, and it's much easier than the "cut, burn with lighter, smoosh the ends" strategy I had been using. Starting cold, it requires ~5-10 seconds from pulling the trigger to melting through the rope using very slight pressure on the rope. The result is a nice clean end with no fraying.

Good tool, good price!
Perfect for my needs! I bought this to cut 1" nylon webbing, and it worked like a charm. I used it on a ceramic tile that I'd placed on top of a rag, which turned out to be really handy for wiping the bad clean when little bits of melted nylon (stinky and probably toxic) got stuck on the bad and started smoking. I understand others' complaint that the tool won't fit in the box with the blade attached--that's a minor bummer, but otherwise I'm very pleased and would recommend this. (I'll probably just stick the tool, the rage, and the tile in a clear plastic shoebox, so I have it all in one place, anyway.) Good little tool at a good price. Now I'm walking around the house looking for other stuff I could melt/cut! LOL

Not great, but OK
First time I used this, it worked acceptably. Not great, but OK. The second time I used this, it didn't work well (didn't heat hot enough to produce clean cuts.) The third time I used this, it didn't heat enough to cut at all. Unfortunately, the third time was two months after I bought it, so past the return period.Very disappointing.
