I'll start with a disclaimer that I'm fairly hard on belts since I mow with a high deck. The angle off the main motor drive puts a lot of strain on any belts I use.That said, I did notice that the belt had a bump along the edge of the "V" in a spot. I gave it a shot and it smoked when engaged in a mid, neutral angled gear (3rd). After a minute or so, I shut down the mower and inspected the belt. The belt had already began to fray. I gave it more of a chance and it lasted about 20 minutes before finally breaking.I knew it was not the installation of the belt or other mechanical problems when I tried a different brand belt and went through the same procedure of "breaking it in" on a neutral angle. The replacement belt I have looks good after several completed mowings.I should have returned it when I saw the defect, but I thought I'd give it a shot. If you buy one of these, inspect it thoroughly. If you find a defect like I did, return it.
