Great Budget Mechanical Keyboard
The overall keyboard build is solid and sturdy. I opted for the brown switches, and I'm happy with my choice. I like the keypresses but dislike how they sound. The sound they produce is a bit loud for my liking, but typing on the keys is excellent. The keys are well-placed and properly spaced. The keycaps also have a nice texture, which I'm a fan of. The keyboard is plug-and-play and straightforward to use.

Keyboard is USB not USB-C
Keyboard has a removable connection which is usb-c. However the cable which comes with it is usb-c to usb. So if you, like myself, were expecting to plug it into a laptop with only usb-c connections this keyboard will not work out of the box.

Level Up Your Game Without Breaking The Bank
Looking for a feature-packed mechanical keyboard to elevate your gaming experience? The Rapoo V500Pro might be the perfect pick. Here's a closer look at why my 13-year-old son and I are both impressed.ProsBuilt to Last: This keyboard feels substantial. The sturdy construction ensures it can handle the enthusiastic button mashing that often comes with competitive gaming.A Feast for the Eyes: RGB lighting is a must for many gamers, and this keyboard delivers in spades. It offers a wide range of customization options, allowing your teen to create the perfect lighting ambiance for their setup.Cleanliness Made Easy: Gamers know keyboards can get messy. This one features a removable magnetic cover plate, making cleaning a breeze. Detach the plate, wipe it down, and snap it back on – no need to dig between keys for crumbs or dust bunnies.Modern Connectivity: The detachable USB-C cable is a welcome touch. It not only makes for a cleaner and less cluttered desk setup, but it also means future-proofing the keyboard for newer devices.Perfect for Beginners: Brown linear switches offer a great balance for young gamers new to mechanical keyboards. They provide a smooth keystroke without the clicky sound of some other switches, making them perfect for late-night gaming sessions without disturbing the whole house. My Son's Take: In his own words, he says this keyboard "feels awesome to use" and "the lights make it look super cool." He also loves that it "cleans up easily" – a major plus for any teenager!ConOne downside is that the product listing shows a video of the keyboard settings being configured with VIA software; however, I could not get VIA to recognise my keyboard. Unfortunately, I cannot confirm wither or not this keyboard works with a keyboard settings application like VIA.The Verdict:The Rapoo V500Pro is a fantastic option for beginner and casual gamers alike. It's feature-rich, easy to clean, and feels great to use. Plus, the price point makes it an attractive entry point into the world of mechanical keyboards. If your teen wants to improve their gaming experience, this keyboard is worth considering.

Great after 3 months
I have reviewed a lot of keyboards in the last year or so and while I'm not one of those people who spends hundreds on a keyboard and knows every detail about different key caps and configurations, I do know what I want from a keyboard. This one is not at all perfect but pretty close.Form and build:This is a full-sized 104 key beast and it seems insane to keep two full-size keyboards on my desk, but I can't get the same comfort working with the 65% keyboards and the like. Everything is where it should be on this thing and I love that. The keyboard is sturdy and looks and feels well made. The lights are nothing crazy and that's good. And the bottom has feet that only adjust from flat to one other position. Another position option would be nice, but isn't something I've thought about or missed. Also on the bottom is the USB C power port and a small cable channel with options to come straight out the back middle, out the back on the far right, or our the back on the far left.Ghosting, stutters, misses:None here. In my keyboard bin, I have a keyboard that I would consider the "perfect" keyboard in how it feels under my fingers when I type, but it has missed key presses and double-press errors, making it pretty unusable. In 3 months, this keyboard has presented no such issues.Key caps and feel:The keys have a slight curve that makes it feel like your fingers won't slip off and create a typo. The brown key caps are nice and really close to the feel I want. I really like a crisp hard (and audible) snap when I type like the old IMB PS2 keyboards of the 90's. This isn't quite there, but it's close enough that I don't think about it much. The typing is tactile and responsive. There is a bezel that magnetically attaches, fitting over the keys and seemingly adding a bit of protection from some debris (crumbs, etc) getting under the keys, but I often accidentally pull it up when moving the keyboard. It's more useful than annoying, but I'd probably rather it have clipped in place. This is a great keyboard for everything you get and a very solid offering in the mechanical keyboard space.

A good intro to the world of mechanical keyboards
This keyboard has a pretty good feel for its price range. The keys have a nice click to them that is also not too noisy. I'm one that still prefers my ancient 30 year old Model M so I'm a bit picky. I'm letting my mother use this one and she enjoys the feel of the keys. The RGB lighting is bright but can be disabled totally if you like. I could not find software to configure the RGB. The keyboard does have function keys to cycle through various patterns like raindrops and waves if that's your thing. I prefer a nice subtle solid color if I have any at all. You should be able to find a pattern to suit you.The keycaps are standard Cherry type posts so if you want to change the look at a later date you can do so with any of hundreds of keycap sets out there. I like anything that can be customized.Once you get your first mechanical keyboard you'll never go back to mushy OEM keyboards

Great affordable keyboard especially if you like to customize your things!
The media could not be loaded. I have had a passing interest in mechanical keyboards for a long time but have only started to look into them more recently. This keyboard has brown switches, which I think are mostly or entirely silent themselves, all the noise from this keyboard being used seems to come from the keycaps themselves making contact with the base. When I remove the keycap and just press the switch down it's almost silent. I still like how this thing sounds, though, but recorded a video to show off the sound and lighting effects so definitely refer to that for how this thing looks and sounds. So far the build quality seems very solid, this thing is heavy! It feels super sturdy, even where the USB-C plugs in in the back seems super well made. You plug it in and then it fits into a very solid niche that holds onto the wire. So if the wire gets damaged the port shouldn't which means that a busted wire won't mean a busted keyboard. The keys are also easy to remove with the provided tool if you want to look into different keycaps or switches. The front plate being held on with magnets is also a nice touch, it lets you change up the look of the keyboard with minimal effort. This thing feels extremely solid, like the manufacturer really cared about making sure it would last. Whether it will last or not remains to be seen but first impressions make it seem like it will.As far as the RGB goes: I have a Ornata Chroma Razer (and a few other rgb peripherals but I figure it would be most helpful to compare it to a bigger, well known brand) and the RGB on this has pros and cons in comparison to the Razer. The biggest con is definitely that you're stuck with one colour per row (F keys get red, numbers get orange, QWERTY gets blue, enter row gets green, shift row gets purple, and spacebar row gets pink (with the spacebar itself, strangely, getting blue)) whereas with something like the Razer keyboards you can customize the colour of every key on the keyboard to whatever you want. However a huge pro is that this keyboard has a bunch of different effects loaded directly onto the keyboard and doesn't require an app to shift between them. Any customization on my Razer keyboard requires the app being launched and you being logged in (I think you can flash an effect to the keyboard but you can't cycle through multiple effect modes outside the app). The Razer app for their keyboards does let you mix and match effects to have multiple going at once, but the customization options come at the cost of there not being a way to flip between modes easily. I really love that you don't need a login or an app for this keyboard, you just plug it in and it works and can customize it from the keyboard itself. The only downside is that customization is limited but I think I prefer that to having to muck around with an app.I like that you can also turn the logo's lighting off entirely. The light on the backside of the keyboard I didn't even realize it had when I ordered this. It's a nice extra touch and I love that for it you can cycle through colours on a solid light mode or a breathing mode! All lighting effects can be turned off completely if that's not your thing or you're in an environment where you don't want light. With the main keyboard lights able to be dimmed if you don't want to turn them off entirely.I don't think it changes the sound much but I like the magnetic plate it comes with, it's surprising how much something like that can change the overall look and feel of the keyboard. Having it off shows off the lighting more but also looks a little strange to me. I definitely prefer having the plate on but it's really nice to have the option. I might look into getting flan caps for this thing to show off the lighting and have the magnetic plate on. I think that'd look extremely good. (Another bonus to the plate coming off is it makes it easier to further customize. I like to wrap things myself (putting vinyl skins on things) but if you're the artistic type you could also easily remove it to paint on it and still be able to use the keyboard in the meantime.)I do a lot of spreadsheet work so having the number pad is an extra delightful bit for me. A lot of keyboard seem to come without it these days and are much more affordable so I'm glad this one is affordable and is a full keyboard.I will also mention that I keep trying to plug mechanical keyboards into my USB extender that isn't powered and it does not work well. This keyboard tried to work off the extender but flickered and key presses would register for far longer than they were pressed. Make sure you plug this keyboard (and any wired mechanical keyboard) directly into your PC or into a powered USB extender. For the price this keyboard rules. I'm super happy with it and look forward to further customizing it!

Colourful, lighted keyboard delivers
I am drawn, like a moth to a flame, to all things bright, shiny, sparkly and colourful. It is a no-brainer that I like all the flashing colours on this gaming keyboard.I like the keyboard itself because it is a standard QWERTY keyboard with a couple of extra keys thrown in here and there. I am often typing in the wee hours of the morning but I don’t like to have overhead lights and lamps on but do enjoy having a “disco-ball lightbulb” going to illuminate the room. My background is secretarial so I know where all the keys are (not a hunt-and-peck typist or two-finger typist) but actually being able to see the keyboard is nice. All the colourful lights on this keyboard give me enough light to see the keyboard if I need to and, more importantly, they are fun and put me in a good mood. The colours and patterns can be customized as can the levels of brightness and the speed. This keyboard just lets you do you!!As I am not a gamer, there are probably a lot of features on this keyboard that I cannot fully appreciate and I am aware of this but as a person who has been typing on everything from manual typewriters to modern computer keyboards and everything in between for the past four decades, I can truly appreciate the smoothness of the keystrokes and the ease of typing this keyboard allows. The keyboard has a removeable top tray which raises or lowers the length/depth of the keys. The removeable tray also make cleaning easy. The keyboard is made from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy according to the listing and I can attest that it feels very sturdy. One interesting feature that I plan on looking into is the on-board programmable memory which allow you to assign macros (or for gamers, commands) to the 103 keys. This can be a real time-saving feature. Another time-saving feature are the “hotkeys”. I am still playing around with a lot of these features but so far, I really like what I see.The keyboard connects using a USB cable which is detachable. I can appreciate this concept because if there is ever a problem, you can try another USB cable to see if that is the issue. I like that the area where the USB cable plugs in (at the back underneath) has 3 channels to direct the cable.I tried the keyboard on a PC and on a laptop with no problems whatsoever. Whether you are like me, a typist who just enjoys the colourful flashing light sequences, or a game who can appreciate the strong keyboard with all its wonderful features geared towards gaming, this keyboard is a keeper. At a cost of $56.99 (May 2024), I believe it is well worth the money.

Very good keyboard, slightly noisy and I was not able to get the software to work.
The Rapoo V500 Pro is a budget mechanical keyboard that gets the basic right. It has a lot of feature found on more expensive model. There is very little to dislike. When considering the price, It's very hard to find a better value. The build is excellent. It's a metal plate sandwich between a plastic top and bottom panel. The keyboard weigh 1.15kg (2.54lb). It feels really sturdy. The version of the keyboard I've tested is the model with brown switch. The switch are not swappable. The keyboard has a USB-C port located at the bottom. There are channel along the bottom of the keyboard so that the wire can come out at different location. The included cable is a basic Polypropylene coated USB C to A cable. There is also a plastic cover to hide the switches. The cover is advertised as a way to turn the keyboard into a low profile keyboard but I don't think they understand the meaning of a low profile keyboard. The cover don't change the key actuation or travel distance. It' sjust a cover. The keycap are PBT but the fonts are extremely boring looking. The keycap uses the very standard cherry cross shape stem so it's very easy to replace. As the switches are not replacable, what you see is what you get. Luckly, the feel of these brown switch are pretty decent. I'm not actually sure who is the manufacturer but they feel fine. The switch are quiet and there is a nice tactile bump to them. Typing is easy and effortless. The switch travel is 4mm. There is no damper on the switches so this keyboard can get noisy when the keys bottoms out. This keyboard has fairly good RGB. The RGB is programmable however, I can't manage to get the software to work. Out of the box, this keyboard has 20 RGB effect. In order to change the RGB settings, use fn+PgUp and fn+PgDn. There is also RGB below the keyboard shining on the desk.According to the product web site, this keyboard is compatible with both Mac and Windows. HOwever, I was not able to find any software for Mac and the software for windows was not able to detect the keyboard. Normally, I would simply use a Windows machine to program the onboard memory and use it with my Mac however, as the software is currently not working. I wouldn't recommend this keyboard if programability is high up your list. Personally, this was not an issue for me. I think the keyboard worked pretty well out of the box.The default multi-media keymapping is very strange. It's as follow:Multimedia Combo Keys:FN + F1= My ComputerFN + F2= CalculatorFN + F3= E-mailFN + F4= My PageFN + F5= SearchFN + F6= PlayerFN + F7= Previous TrackFN + F8= Next TrackFN + F9= Play/PauseFN + F10= Volume+FN + F11= Volume-FN + F12= MuteI would have expected Play/Pause would be between Previous and Next Track. The Volume control key on the left should decrease volume instead of increasing it. Again, the keys are fuly programmable so if you manage to get the software to work, it's very easy to fix. The F1 to F12 don't have any indication of it's media function. I needed to learn it by heart.Over all, I think this is a very nice keyboard for the price. It's hard to justify $200+ for a keyboard. With the Rapoo V500 Pro, you will get 95% of a premium mechanical keyboard at a fraction of the price.

Good but not flawless.
When it comes to the functionality of a keyboard, this does it's job and does it fairly well. The build quality is good, it's not entirely aluminum in construction, with only the top plate being made of metal but the fact that it is at all made of aluminum at the price point is impressive. The quality of the plastic parts is also fairly solid and durable feeling. I've had keyboards that were much pricier that were less durable feeling than this one.The keycaps aren't the highest quality in the world, but they're not horrible. They'll do the job well enough and, frankly, keycaps are probably the least important part of a keyboard given how easy and cheap they are to replace, especially on a standard layout keyboard like this one. They transmit the color of the RGB well enough, and have a font that's fully readable. The switches are alright, they're tactile brown switches, and they are indeed extremely tactile. They're some of the bumpiest I've typed on. It will take some getting used to, but it makes for an interesting typing experience that I suspect will become very quick once you get used to it. It is a very high learning curve compared to other switches, I feel. Important to note is that they're dust proof switches, too. This likely won't be a dealbreaker for anyone, and for most people it will likely be a boon if nothing else. It is something to keep in mind however if you are planning on replacing the stock keycaps. Now the secondary features of this keyboard are some of my favourites. The magnetic removeable plate is something I've never seen before in a keyboard and is really, really cool. It basically allows you to swap it from the more typical recessed keys you would see in most keyboards to the more 'floaty' design you sometimes see on higher end boards. In practice, this lets you have the benefits of the recessed design blocking dust from easily getting in between the keys, while allowing you to pull off the plate and have an easier time getting the dust OUT from between the keys. More than that, it also just allows for a level of customization you rarely see in keyboards. The cable management is nice. The cable is hotswappable, which is always a benefit, and along the underside of the board is a channel that allows you to put the cable out in 3 different spots- left, center and right, letting you have full control over how you manage the keyboard. The keyboard has two settings for the pop-up stands, which is a design I'm fond of seeing. though it's important to note that if you are someone who doesn't like a keyboard that is at a a slight angle, this keyboard is always at a slight incline even without the stands up. I'm usually a flat-keyboard kind of guy, and with my setup it made it a little uncomfortable to type on after a while, so if you're really against any angle, you should keep that in mind. I would have much preferred if it was entirely flat with the stands down. In my mind, that's how it should be.The RGB customization was a little disappointing for me. There are a good couple options for how the colors present themselves, but even with the software (which isn't easy to find, honestly) you are stuck on the rainbow design, with no options to customize where the colors present. The only places where the colors can be changed are on the side lights, which is absurd. All the LEDs should be universal color particularly when you have a program that's made for customizing.Overall, the keyboard is pretty good. It's not perfect, there are definitely some things that could be improved, but for the price you'll get a sturdy keyboard. If you're a fan of keyboards at an angle, and don't care about RGB customizability, this thing will do you fine. It's very sturdy and types well enough. I just can't give it a full 5 stars with these problems as the angle especially caused a little discomfort while typing, and that's not something I'd want in a keyboard.

Solid, Colourful and Mechanical Gaming KB!
The keys are a softer mechanical clicking than I am used to. For as solid as the keyboard itself is, the keys sound hollow. If you are a mechanical KB fan, then the feeling is really great. The sound of it, is a little bit off to me.The controls are easy to use to get all sorts of colour combinations. All the classics, breathing, waves, stars, touch points etc.. all there. light bars and logos can also be controlled. The feet stands are in a good position and the KB lays very comfortably. It came with a USB-C to USB-A cable, great! It's a standard 104 key mechanical keyboard with an impressive light show and some customizability. But you can’t map colours to light up only keys you want and they aren’t individual (RGB) LEDs, they are the colour that they are in rows. (Like F keys are all red, moving down is orange, blue, green, purple then pink.) Again, pretty, but static colours. What is also really great is that this is a full-sized keyboard with the number pad on the side. I use that a lot in my job. It’s totally plug n' play, and so far I didn't install any software to make the colours work. (*but we’ll get to that). The key cover is easy to remove with the magnets. That makes it easy to clean it out, as well as remove the keys with the included puller. I didn't see any extra keys included for customizations (AWSD, space etc..). But with the cover removed (floating keys look) it sounds a little better actually. With the cover on though, it looks and feels a little better. The price for the keyboard was reasonable compared to some that I have. I found drivers that are natively in WINDOWS10/11 anyways, but I had to search around to find the customizable software. I initially found and installed the wrong one, then eventually found what looked like the same one in the ad. It can add macros, and remap the whole keyboard basically, so there is some customization but you need to have profiles understood and how to make a WHOLE KEYBOARD MAP for a gaming experience you desire. It’s not bad but I think the macros are limited. But it’s easy (enuf) to customize the keyboard.Solid 4 Stars!
