I love to BBQ.Done it at Christmas, summer whenever, it is apparent though that so called lumpwood charcoal from supermarkets or DIY stores are somewhat lacking. Small pieces, that are slow to start but too quick a burn time, smokey as hell, to name some of the issues.This charcoal is, in my opinion EXCELLENT. To start with, I had to break some of the pieces up as they were too big. Then the initial burn time was just over 5 minutes, and a lot of the pieces were grey, (Unlike others that take upto 40 minutes then have no heat to actually cook with). The meal didn't have black oily residue (as with some others). The food, both meat and vegetables were clean tasting, and no horrible after tastes.I will have to try it with the smoking chips, for my next BBQ.The cost may seem high at first, but as stated the other store purchased stuff, works out more expensive, working out weight, and use, to cook over a period etc, a lot more is used as compared to this brandI will definetly be buying only this brand in the future.

Used this in my gravity-fed smoker and it has worked really well. The chunks are *huge* and the burn for a very long time, so maybe not suitable for quicker grilling or burgers and sausages, but for a long sustained heat they are perfect.It's a good-sized bag so there's plenty there for a few sessions.

The driver delivered compost instead of lump wood charcoal and I've had trouble getting them to deliver the charcoal.

I've been cooking on a Kamado for 4 years now. I've tried numerous types and brands of charcoal and i must say this is the best i have used so far. Very qucik to light with little smoke. Burns clean and for a long time and will go extremely hot or low and slow, very versatile. The bag contained some massive pieces that i was saving for a very long cook, but ended up breaking into med/large pieces instead for a pork shoulder cook. Lots of small/medium pieces toward the bottle. I'm finding this hard to beat for quality/price combo and have just ordered again. The bag lasted me 3 months of almost weekly grilling too.

I used to always use charcoal bricks until I went to a BBQ show and ended up speaking to a BBQ chef who would only use lump wood charcoal and when he demonstrated the two it was easy to see why he didn't like the bricks. Have been using the BIG K now for over two summer seasons and honestly wouldn't use anything else, good burn times and very little smoke. 100% would recommend.

Better by miles than anything else on this site. Lasts long and heavy enough to not float away after 20 mins like some other supposed eco-brands. I have tried them all and always come back to this. You are better off getting a bigger bag because the price per kg comes down and it all ways get used. There is always some dust left in the bag but no more than expected. Might need to break up some of the larger pieces too.

great quality charcoal

This is a fantastic product large pieces and buns hot and for a long time. It is not expensively. Compared to the small sizes you buy at supermarkets most SM charcoals is small pieces and burns to quick. These bags are big. Also it lights easy.
