Great aroma and taste
This is my fourth or fifth time ordering this product (it lasts me about a year). It has always been of great quality. If you have only ever had peppercorns from the grocery store, then you are missing out of this much more aromatic and flavorful peppercorns. On a purely subjective scale, I would say these peppercorns have twice (may three times) as much flavor and aroma compared to the peppercorns I have bought for decades in grocery stores.

Malabar Black Peppercorns are my favorite
I've bought these several times, once from a local purveyor and twice from Starwest. For the convenience, freshness, and value, I prefer these. I prefer the freshness and the way the smell lets me know that the spices being ground are going to add to my dish (and not be a "I know I put in spice"). I don't really use them whole, but I'll use a mortar and pestle when I want cracked pepper, like for steak au poivre. I'll add them to the grinder with other spices for spice blends. And this is pretty much all I'll put in my pepper mill.

Honest Review From An Everyday Home Cook
If you're like me, you're experienced, but not necessarily an expert. This is my first purchase of Malabar Black Pepper from any vendor. I was raised with store-bought Tellicherry Black Pepper, and I never found anything special about pepper until I made this purchase. It's not mind-blowingly unique, but it was 100% worth what I paid. Here is why you should buy this versus store bought pepper:AROMA: Very fresh, and botanical aroma; I never knew black pepper could have such a fresh, lovely, and pure scent.TASTE: Noticeably higher quality than regular brands. It has a lingering, but pleasant spice. Not overwhelming, and balanced very well.GRIND: Much softer, and easier to grind than stone-dry store bought fare. Personally, there's something more satisfying about grinding this pepper to me.PRICE: $20.33 after tax. This is going to last me a while. Obviously more expensive than going to the store, but you get what you pay for. No regrets whatsoever. If you're looking to try something new, you will not be let down by this pepper. And if you've had bad experiences in the past, there are absolutely no stones in this.

My second batch
We use whole pepper corns and really enjoy grinding them fresh for our dishes. This is organic snd has the strong fresh peppery scent that is awesome. Other varieties lacked the potency of this brand.Overall freshness and potency, along with a fair price makes this a five star item.

Very good, very fresh
We've been using this brand of black pepper exclusively for can't remember how long. Each one-pound bag lasts us years. If you transfer the pepper into a sealed container, preferably stainless steel or aluminum, it keeps its freshness and taste really well. The price has gone up a bit since our last purchase-- I'm guessing that production and transportation costs have risen-- but at such high quality this pepper is still a great buy.

Taste good.
I have been buying this for sometime now and never disappointed in the product delivered. Stays fresh in the pouch it comes in if you seal it right and store in a dark cool part of the pantry, I make sure to squeeze as much air out before sealing it, stays fresh for months.

Very NICE organic peppercorn. If only it were Tellicherry.!!
Over the past several years I have been experimenting with black peppercorns. I have tried several versions of Malabar Black as well as several versions of Tellicherry. This is my latest venture into the world of peppercorns. I ordered these particular ones because they are certified organic. I tend to buy organic when I can (if there is not TOO much of a premium to be paid..), but I am not adamant about it. When I discovered these I decided to try them mostly because they were organic and not too expensive in comparison to the ones I had been ordering.I prefer the Tellicherry peppercorns. Lately I have been buying Kirklands as shown here: Kirkland Signature Whole Tellicherry Peppercorns, 14.1oz Gourmet Jar. When I discovered I could buy these for the same price I decided to give them a try. I may keep using these instead of the Tellicherry.Okay, I think these are a fairly high quality peppercorn of the type known as Malabar Black. Like I said, I prefer Tellicherry, but that doesn't mean that Malabar Black is not good. They are quite nice.! They are spicy and robust in flavor and nicely dried. They are well packaged in a foil pouch that extends freshness. My pouch did not exhibit any tendency to separate at the zipper as some others have commented. But the packaging is not the reason to buy... or to NOT buy these peppercorns. So why..?? Well, because they are organic AND they are reasonable. So organic quality + reasonable pricing = GOOD VALUE.These are NOT perfect, but they are quite good. There is a little bit of "trash" mixed in with the peppercorns which is easily removed. But other than that, I am very happy with the product. So until I can find this quality in organic Tellicherry, I suppose I will continue to use these Organic Malabar Black peppercorns instead.Four stars for a nice product and a great value. Try these... You will not be disappointed.

Excellent product
This is my third time buying this exact product in the past 5 years. The moment you open the vacuum sealed bag for the first time and get blasted in the face with the aroma of fresh, high-grade pepper, you'll realize you made the right decision in buying these. The difference in aroma and flavor you'll experience between Starwest and your local off-the-shelf store bought peppercorns is indescribable.
