Truly odor free
I used in conjunction with Tide odor refresh, Lysol laundry sanitizer, and vinegar and baking soda and the mix of everything got the funk out of my stuff. I really have a problem because my stuff sits for awhile before I can get to it (I have too many clothes and do big loads). I also put stuff into storage over the off seasons and they get that "storage funk". It also got the "mirena crash/faux menopause" stink out of my sheets if any of you women know what I'm talking about. It doesn't take too many nights of night sweats to stink up your sheets. It's also truly unscented but all my stuff was tainted by doing it at the laundromat and it all smelling like every detergent ever. I'm hyperosmic so I can't have scented or stinky fabrics or it's entirely too overwhelming. I'm one of those people that can smell my own cats odors when people visiting can't, and that says something. You usually become "nose-blind" to your own cat's smells. I don't. Eeeveer. This also seems to help with hair stink but for that I also soaked in apple cider vinegar and lemon juice then rinsed and soaked in baking soda water and let dry with baking soda in it and washed with same mix as above but acv and lemon juice. It all actually removed the stubborn hair funk on the linen tea towels I put on my neck pillow (I hate the fabric).

Gentle on skin and clothes!
I LOVE this stuff. I’ve used another variation but I really like this fragrance free version. It definitely helps make clothes softer on the skin. More than anything I notice that I don’t have any skin issues from using it. Some other products can cause itchiness.I believe it targets odors and I notice it is effective for that, but nothing extreme. I tend to go through it kind of fast. I wish they had a measuring cup. Overall 9/10!

Hard Well Water - Stiff Clothes
We have hard well water. Our laundry was getting smelly and stiff feeling. I cut back on laundry detergent. Didn't help. I tried vinegar in the rinse. Didn't help. Laundry stripping helped - but not for long. I added borax once but it took the color out of our colored clothes. The only thing that worked was Calgon Laundry Softener.....until I tried this. The only reason I switched from Calgon was it got too expensive. This stuff just works. I don't know how....but it does. Bonus Points for being unscented and dye free. Doesn't irritate our sensitive skin - and it doesn't take much so it's a good value for the money.

It’s time for a change folx!
This is a great product that I wish was explained more clearly so people knew why they need it! What’s left unsaid is to ditch the fabric softener because it’s only masking the real problem with your laundry - too much detergent!! America is hooked on laundry detergent I guess, everyone I know is overdosing the detergent … and I too used to be one of them. I thought more detergent = cleaner clothes but in reality too much detergent doesn’t thoroughly rinse out, and all the residue left behind makes clothes look dull and feel rough. So I overdosed the fabric softener to “fix” that problem and lived my days April Fresh, not realizing how I was shortening the life of my clothing. This Downy Rinse & Refresh is not a fabric softener, but it will help your clothes come out softer because it helps rinse away all the built up mineral deposits and detergent residues. And, along with that, it’s helping rinse away stink-causing bacteria that’s trapped by those residues.Have you ever heard of using vinegar in the rinse cycle to soften clothes? This Rinse & Refresh works the same way, only 10x better. I prefer unscented so I can smell if my clothes don’t come clean, but if you’re hooked on the fragrance of softeners this comes in scents that are just as strong. The other day I left a clean load of towels in the washer overnight and it had a faint funky smell when I finally remembered it. I ran it through a warm speed wash cycle but instead of detergent I put 1/4 cup of this in the detergent drawer (since the towels were already cleaned and I was doing an extra “rinse”) and my towels and washer smelled funk free when it was done! I definitely recommend using this with your towels, it can help get them softer and more absorbent. There’s no measuring cap attached but I’ve been using 1 to 2 ounces (1/8 - 1/4 cup) in the rinse cycle, depending on load size and weight. (A full load of towels is heavy so I use more than I do with a load of athletic wear.)

What to do about over-perfumed laundry
This product from downy is really good! I bought the unscented, because I was trying to get rid of a very "fake" flower scent on two loads of clothes. The instructions are non-specific, but I used my science background and their assurance that there are no hazard chemicals and decided since my main goal was to remove the chemical smell from once-worn or washed in that smell but never worn, I used warm water, no detergent, and poured 1 cup of Downy Rinse and Refresh unscented liquid after the clothes were all submerged in the washer. Most of the clothes were free of the offending odor, but if I still smelled it, I put them in the next load which I did the same way (different heavier clothes), and that was all I needed to do.

The bottle really is disappointing!
When I read other reviewers complaining about the bottle I thought they were being a little critical. However, the bottle really is very cheap and flimsy. The picture on Amazon show a small spout on it too. That’s not there either. You have to grip the bottle with two hands and carefully pour the right amount in. Between the thin flimsy bottle and the open top it really does make for a tricky pour. The stuff does seem to work though.
